Arthur Hailey used the first two lines of this classic to head his best-known work “Airport”.

Hello All, "High Flight" was written by my uncle, Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee, Jr. He was my father, David B. Magee's eldest brother. The Rev. John G. Magee was my grandfather. On behalf of my entire family including my dear brother John Gillespie Magee III, who passed away on September 2, 2024 who loved "High Flight" perhaps more than anyone on Earth, I thank you all for your very very kind comments. I know my grandfather and my Uncle John from their celestial perspective must be so pleased that " High Flight" continues to bring so much joy and deep feeling to so many. Thank you and May God bless you all. ✨🕊✨ Martha Rice Magee December 28, 2024

I feel like I wanna start tomorrow without me. I think of myself instead of passed away beloved one. I imagined about the day my life end from the time I was a child...

What a voice to suck the joy that inspired Gillespie to write this poem out of its' telling. It's truly a tragedy that he should have died so young, but at least give the young man his triumph!

My mother died at the age of 64 years old. She died on June 11, 2020. The day of her funeral came, I was crying into tears, and from that day to today, I still miss her. I loved her. She was so nice to everyone who walked into her house.

Sadly, Magee died in a flying accident soon after the poem was written. It’s recited at a lot of aviation funerals.
