How long does it take for the tacky glue to try when making journals. Also does the amount I use matter
@Craft_shop_girl20 күн бұрын
You know I'd say for about a pea size drop it would probably take a good 5 minutes. It's not a fast drying glue in my opinion. It drys as fast as most water based white glues; however, it is pretty strong.

Love how it turned out! I especially like how you added the ruffled trim on the inside of the front and back covers to give the illusion of a wider journal and keep the entirety of the LGB story book pages. So clever! Is the back cover ruffle trim made from packaging? If so, I love that! Merry Christmas my friend! xoxo

Hello my friend! I love your method of keeping the "golden" spine! I've not worked on a hidden spine journal yet but I may just try your technique - I love it! Can't wait to see your next video. By the way, I love how you said you've ONLY decorated TWO trees, hehehe meanwhile, I'm over here with the essence of a tree😆. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!! 🎄🎄
@Craft_shop_girlАй бұрын
Thanks ❤ and Merry Christmas. Yes! Let me know what you come up with. I’m sure you’ll have a great spin on my process. And for the record I ended up with 3 full size trees and 1 mini. (I might just leave them up all year) 😬
@JanetNeethingАй бұрын
I've been watching a lot of LGB alterations. I have not made one myself. Just want to know - why, when taking so much care to save the golden spine, does everyone punch holes in it 🤔 Is there no way of doing a hidden spine so that the golden spine really stays intact? (Any tutorials that I could watch?) I agree with many that feel a LGB is not a "junk" journal, but is an altered book.
@Craft_shop_girlАй бұрын
I agree they aren’t junk. LGBs are treasures. I just finished a video last night of a hidden spine. I will try to upload it this evening. I also have a flip through of a book I made that has a hidden spine. Let me know if you have any more questions or if there’s something you’d like to see. Thanks 😊

Just subscribed to your channel. Question: how much did you trim off from the golden book? Is it necessary to? Did you add any washi tape, etc to the golden book pages. Just wandering because I have some vintage/old books that not sure if the pages will hold up. Thank you. Great video!
@Craft_shop_girl2 ай бұрын
All very good questions. So I’ve always cut about 1/4” off but I think what I’ll do is a video not cutting any of the pages and using a vintage book. I’ve also never used washi tape on the pages. I’d like to see how well they hold up as well. Give me a few days and I’ll try to post the video soon. Thanks for subscribing ❤️😇

Do you have the measurement of the string you used to sew in the signatures?
@Craft_shop_girl3 ай бұрын
When I measure my string I take the length of the spine and triple it. Unless I want an extra long string to add embellishments then I’ll do 3 1/2 to 4 times. I’ll do a video short so you can see how I do it.

Fantastic collection of memorabilia and mementos. You’re absolutely right about souvenir stickers…they’re pricey but even that doesn’t stop me from getting some 😂😅😂 Do you take the plastic storage case with you, if so I love that idea!
@Craft_shop_girl3 ай бұрын
The stickers were addicting - I had to stop myself a few times. I usually only take my computer bag that has a large compartment that's about the size of the plastic container. I fill it with a few large envelopes and ziploc bags. That usually hold enough. I loved you organizer.... might have to get one... hehe!

I'm thinking of making some of these for my preschool class. We have several that will be going into kindergarten that are learning to read and write. I thought this would be great for them to use. Also, I have a student with serious illness and will be at the hospital a lot. I thought my students could make him pictures and notes in one to give him. A couple years ago, I made mini albums for each to add photos and decorate. I used chipboard, cardstock, and scrapbook paper. The floral paper you are using in this journal is the same paper we used.
@Craft_shop_girl4 ай бұрын
That would be such a great idea for a preschool class. They could fill it with their own memories throughout the year. It would also make a great journal for your student that is ill. I imagine journaling and having inspirational messages could be comforting. 😇🙏🏼❤️

What is the glue your using? My dad had a golden book collection of over 350 books. Before he passed he got rid of it and I'm so sad I didn't keep them.
@Craft_shop_girl4 ай бұрын
Oh no, I’m so sorry. 🙏🏼. I use different types of glue depending on my needs. I’ll try to make a quick video today showing you the different types. I use UHU glue stick for paper; Art Glitter Glue for paper, cardstock and trim - it has absolutely no glitter - it’s just the name; Fabri-tac for fabric, trim and some heavy paper. Also used Deco Art gloss glaze for my Golden Spine. 😊

Can you tell me if you cut the pages along the inside where they used to be enclosed in the spine and hinging them instead of cutting them off at the outside edges...it ends up cutting off about 3/4" on the outside edges otherwise and white showing on the inside where they were previously in the enclosed stapled spine??? I am making one for an expectant mommy and not sure how you did that part...I love this just struggling with this part...PLEASE HELP❤
@Craft_shop_girl6 ай бұрын
I cut the outside edge, and does take off about 3/4”. I’ve been lucky that my stories have all stayed in tact and not cut off. Are you disassembling the book like I did? Depending on the book you should be ok with trimming it. Another idea is to add to the edge of the cover. If you give me a couple of days I can upload a video showing you how to do that. Let me know if you have any other questions. 🥰
@ImGinaMarie6 ай бұрын
@Craft_shop_girl thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! I went ahead and cut the pages that were enclosed in the spine and hinged them. I didn't really have a choice because a few of the pages' words were to close to the outter edges. I am curious as to how you extend the cover or other ideas you might have, I really hated doing the hinges especially on this particular LGB it's the LGB about God with Elouise Wilkin..I might end up putting washi over the hinges to help...thank you so much for any help❤
