Sergio Mendes was a New York-based producer who had a simple but brilliant idea: Taking the music of Brazil, writing English lyrics, putting together a band and introducing this amazing music to the English speaking world. "Pretty World" was originally a popular Brazilian song with Portuguese lyrics called "Sa Marina." The melody was written by the legendary Brazilian composer Antonio Adolfo. Whether repurposing popular Brazilian songs, doing straight up covers like "Mais Que Nada" or simply covering popular English songs with a Samba beat, Mendes brought the Brazilian sound to global prominence.

Herb's wife is wonderful! My aunt worked for Herb and Jerry in the 60s and I got a tour of A&M and my aunt gave me tons of promotional stuff. Lani's voice takes me back!

I was 14 when this song came out and I still love it. This was my favorite group of all time and I have multiple copies of the lp's and cd's.

Hey what happened to Jack "Pringle Shaker".... He was in the Sergio Mendes song "Mas que nada". Perhaps after that camera stealing performance shaking out all the broken pringle dust all over the lady with the gigantic ear balls, one of the girls probably told Serge, "It's either him or me"... Then he could be "Bob the Bongo Bopper" in this film. I mean, who really knows...

10 years ago, my dad used to listen to this song all the time and it was also stuck in his head as well.

I remember my dad surprised my mom with a brand new '68 T-Bird coupe (white...no vinyl top thank God)...loaded at the time with all the options, including the 8-track stereo tape player. My parents loved Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66...this song was on an album that was released in '69...of all the tapes they had, that album was played to death in that beloved car. Happy times.

My all time favorite ,Sergio Mendez. My neighbor would know if I am home from semestral school break, when the stereo is blasting with Sergio Mendez music all day. Such memories.
