Thank you so much! It took less than a minute and worked like a charm! You saved the day avoiding the cost of and time loss of tow truck for something as lame as a flat tire.

This only works if you have an electric throttle body right? Cause im pretty sure my truck doesnt have the module for cable driven throttle body

@@jasonclemente4392 yeah that's right, this would only work with an electronic throttle.

Good tips. Maybe a dumb question but when you whacked that socket on hard, doesn't that negate the need to lightly tap it beforehand? Also, if you missed before, you could really damage the rim.
@arctic_otter10 ай бұрын
Possibly it does negate it yes. It feels like the direct hammering delivers a sharper impact, but I haven't tried it since this video. Might be worth a shot. Realistically this specific car isn't torqued that tight, only 78ft-lbs, so it would probably work with just the socket hammering. That's a good point about the rim damage.
@MOAB-UT10 ай бұрын
@@arctic_otter Good vid. Glad you fixed it- saved yourself a bunch of cash. I also heard it's good to drill or punch out the center cover of the nut cover and inject some penetrating oil and leave it to sit overnight. 78lbs. or 100lbs. does not make a huge difference. Either she is coming off or she ain't IMHO.
@arctic_otter9 ай бұрын
@@MOAB-UT that's a good idea, especially if you don't care about saving the nut and it's rusty. Every bit helps. I'm not sure if those nuts hare hardened at all; if they are might be hard to drill freehand. It's all another tool in the mental resource toolbox though.
@MOAB-UT9 ай бұрын
@@arctic_otter You drill or punch the thin metal layer many chrome looking nuts have over them...not the nut itself.

I guess I'm just cursed. I seem to be the only person who can't get anything to work. I've been stuck with a shredded tire for 3 days. Whatever shop put the tires on last time WAY overtorqued the lugnuts. They even used their impact wrench with the lugnut key and stripped both the key and the nut. The nut is on there so tight that I've busted 3 sockets and snapped my torque wrench in two trying to remove it. My impact wrench didn't budge it, either. I would just air it up and try to drive it to a shop, but the tire is shredded and has no way to hold air. So I'm just stuck with 3 busted sockets, a snapped torque wrench, and a car I can't drive. Story of my life.
@arctic_otter Жыл бұрын
Oh dear! One thought that just came to mind, is they make stripped nut removal sockets, and it looks like a little scalloped flower inside, if that makes sense. With sharp points that are meant to dig in to the flats of the nut. Maybe something like that could work for you?
@TroyD-vo1bz Жыл бұрын
Do you have a gas or diesel truck? I've heard this only works on diesel trucks. I have a 2006 Express 3500 6 liter gas engine and would like to know if it would work.
@arctic_otter Жыл бұрын
Gas! 4.8 Vortec. Sounds like it might be worth a shot on yours if if has the connection on the steering shaft.
@TroyD-vo1bz Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure in order for this to work you need to have an electronic throttle control module. Could you look down by your gas pedal and tell me if you see a little black control box? I think that's the ticket. Mine appears to be mechanical, although I did not trace it all the way back to the engine.
@arctic_otter Жыл бұрын
Yes that's correct. I do have an electronic throttle. If it's mechanical cable you'll have to buy one of those vacuum solenoid things and the method in the video wont work. Although you'll probably still need a new stalk; I haven't fully looked into what to do with a mechanical one to give it cruise.
