this man taught me how to ride horses 8 years ago. I'm not surprised he mastered these obstacles. He really knows how to train a horse

Poor horse shouldn’t be having to run gymkhana games. Do you not notice it is running by hopping with keeping his back legs together? Because it is painful for it to do a normal stride, look at its tail movements it is in pain although I can tell it loves its job, just sad to see a lame horse Have to work that hard.

I don't know why in Spain we have to ride boring dressage style all the time. Never getting used to it. This is REAL riding. It is fantastic! 😄👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@suzanneterrey4499 Жыл бұрын
Don't think he didn't use the principles of dressage when he trained that horse. Also note his riding position which showed his body control and relaxation which are hallmarks of dressage. Also dressage is NEVER boring, the challenges are great and the rewards are terrific! His horse's head was always steady which means he kept the softness in his horses mouth and jaw which is not easy to achieve until your hands are soft and sensitive.

Just wondering, what is your strategy when you turn the horse list and he doesn’t have a lot of energy?
@evonkurtz2 жыл бұрын
I teach the horse to go forward by tossing the whip over his hip and clucking to him. The lazy horse will easily turn towards you when you stop pushing them. if I want them to approach me I have already taught them to move forward by clucking to them as I withdraw away from them to become smaller it will often cause them to draw to you and it helps if you have a treat to give them when they come to you (but not necessary). this is something you need to witness before trying it to fully understand it. Cowboy racing is just for people who can't train for actual western events. She's using two hands on a shank, disgusting, that would be an instant disqualifier. I've entered the odd cowboy race in my country and the competition is always an absolute joke compared to trail or reining. Take the bridle off and you'll have the truth, no control, an absolute joke of training.

Thank you for joining me. My apologies for the live chat comments disappearing. TO RECAP: I've had this 10 year old mare (Rose) in training for a little over a month. She was very nervous and flighty with the driving lines especially if they touched her hind end. Her mouth was uneducated and this was a problem for her owners. It takes patience for effective ground driving. The driving lines I like to use are made of 6' clothes lines tied to a lunge line. They are effective because they are light and do not catch or pull on her mouth. Yesterday we rode her out of the roundpen and out on obstacles. Her first ride can be see here on the channel.

The horse is following the bit ...
@maryknueven10656 жыл бұрын
To explain my previous reply "The most important test is if the horse will follow the contact forward, and down, if the reins are softened by the rider. If the horse follows, it is so to speak the horse that chooses to touch the rider with its mouth. If this quality of contact is established, the horse is really working on the bit, even if its head is a little in front of or behind the vertical." from an article about being on the bit.

Thank you for you input. Champ is a great horse and his rider is very soft handed. She leased Champ and had a very short time with him. His owner was so happy with the rider. During the heat of competition (especially during a race) oftentimes the rider gets in their mouth or the horse pulls on their hands when rating down. This is hard to avoid in a situation such as this. Overall the rider did a fine job and Champ loves her.

@@maryknueven1065 You don't ride like that in a leverage bit. The horse should hold itself in a collected frame on the aids. You shouldn't even need the bit once you get to the stage of using a leverage bit, anything else is piss poor training and terrible hands. The comment that this horse is leased and not even trained by the girl riding it furthers my point that she can't train. A nice horse, awful rider.

Please keep watching after the opening scene. Turn the volume down a bit if the sound is echoing too high. Apologies for the opening scene sound, bear with me this is not reflective of the entire footage. This scene was filmed during very high winds. I had to remove the wind and kick up Bill's voice. Great tips and coaching on introduction to an obstacle. I did not have the time to do a voice over on it. Evon.

@badlandsBuBBa...that is great that you are interested in EXCA. Our World Finals are held in TX, at the Circle T Ranch arena in Hamilton. Hope to see you there next year. Your wife would like to see the top riders in the world there. We have incorporated in our training program here "Cowboy Dressage" along with EXCA. cowboy Dressage has a challenge course they train on. It really helps to get body control, gait rating up and down on a loose rein with cadence. This is what the judges are looking for true gaits on a loose rein with a headset just in front of the verticle
@badlandsBuBBa9 жыл бұрын
First time seeing what EXCA is all about. The Mrs. wants to start training two of her mounts for something new and this looks fun, interesting and applicable to many of our daily challenges in trail riding in a semi urban area.

Water box with a piece of heavy plywood with 2" circumference holes cut in it to create a splash as the horse steps in it. The plywood floats on top. When the horse steps in the plywood is pushed down causing the water to gush up out of the holes.
