I have cone rod dystrophy and as of now I'm 20 200. Was told it will reach 20 400, so I wanted to see if I will at least still watch tv or play my guitar by sight or just muscle memory. I use my phone camera as it has good HD so i use it more than expensive E readers.

I have the same acuity. Everything is blurry and nearly incomprehensible beyond like 4 feet. I could even barely read a large calendar even if I'm 6 feet away. I had glasses but I broke them so I had spent my recent 8 years without one. I'm used to it and I could navigate large spaces, albeit squinting constantly.

For Australians who were told they were legally blind despite their vision being corrected beyond 20/200, it’s a legal definition so it varies from country to country. Most countries use America’s definition, though.

Wow, when the cameraman adjusted for 20/400, so many memories came rushing back. That was how I saw the world without glasses (no, I was not legally blind and never claimed to be back then, for the record :) ). They weren't Coke bottles, but they were pretty thick. I also had a severe astigmatism, and in the 70's and 80's I was told I couldn't do contacts because of that. I was pretty active and went through my share of glasses (Dad did not like that, but bats and balls and other sports took a toll, lol), and yes, what the cameraman saw was what I saw. Not fun. Ended up getting Lasik in 2002 (after much research, talking to the clinic, these are my only pair of eyes after all). Best choice I ever made. Went from 20/400 to 20/15. That was 20 years ago, and while my age will always play a factor, as now I'm starting to see (no pun intended lol) that there is a touch of blurriness starting to set in (in my 50's now), but ever so slightly, so probably gonna pay the good ol' optometrist a visit within a couple of years. Good video and thank you for posting. Wish I could've had a pair of those goggles to show my friends in HS back then :).

My vision before glasses is 20/400 (20/20 with glasses but still have distortion from my cornea that can't be corrected with glasses). The 20/400 on camera when I have my glasses on is fairly close to how blurry it is with them off (minus the distortion that can't be corrected with glasses).

I hate when people try to simulate legal blindness. As he said in the beginning, it's very different for everyone. I have a rare genetic retinal condition, and I can see a car, tell you the color, the type (Car or truck or more), and also see if it's moving from a 1/2 mile away. That being said, I can't read the 2nd row of an eye chart from 20 feet away. I can see the leaves on trees, I can see animals in a pasture that are 2 thousand feet away, yet I can't read that eye chart. It's literally different for everyone.

This is just one example of vision loss/blindness in which Pat best decribes. i have other videos that show my vision in which i can still read and do a lot different stuff because my periphural is most affect not my central vision. I believe showing people is a good step in helping other people understand that blind doesnt mean black.

For 6 months I had a vision prescription of 20/400 in my right eye due to a pituitary gland growth pressing against my optic nerve. Luckily I had it removed and have gone back to my regular prescription. Losing your vision is truly terrifying.

I lost my vision almost two years ago. One year ago, we had a social worker who said that leaving our kids with me alone was the same as child neglect. Even though I know that she is wrong, legally and morally for saying that, it does not change the fact that I am now terrified of being alone with my own kids (who are 9 and 11 btw). It is also sickening to realize that I made more per month working part time at a gas station than what I get with disability... The sheer lack of empathy is just so heartbreaking. Apparently being labeled as disabled makes you less than human.

I am legally blind but I did not make excuses for my situation. I worked in retail for years and dealt with discrimination but now because I built years of work experience under my belt I am going to work at a Base Supply Center as a Coordinator for LC Industries (A company that hires people who are legally blind). LC Industries is helping me relocate and the pay is really good. The opportunities exist so, there is no reason to stay unemployed. www.lcindustries.com/careers/

Why don’t you to become roommates and move to the city? I am blind myself and I do not know any blind people at all, the only people that I know that are so cited cannot understand what I go through on a daily basis and right now I am trying to find myself a place to live and I do live in the city and it is hard for a blind person to find a place by their self. But U2 have each other you can become roommates.
