Sorry, I cannot answer that question. The records were given to me and I wanted to make them available to the public.

I grew up in the original Ipswich, in Suffolk England. As far as I know they dont have a memorial day event. I would guess if you asked most people on the street, they would know what you were talking about! France, where I now live, is different, they DO, over the whole country.

This is one of my favorite John Prine songs, and my absolute favorite Christmas song. Bob does a nice job on it.

This version is different from the David Houston song by the same name. This version is the one i used to sing with my father when I was little (I sang Pedro's part). My dad has passed away and I want to play this at his memorial. But I cant hear the last verse clearly enough, but I know this is the one. What is the second line of the last verse? "And then a lady walked across the border...." Whats the next line? Its the only one I dont remember? Thank you for putting this up, its bringing back some wonderful memories. Just hope i can get through it.

John.....two years ago I had 8 huge white oaks cut down by a tree company. 3-4 years ago our entire neighborhood was devastated by Gypsy Moths. I had a tree company come in and they had a newer truck. I'd attach a picture if I could. But instead of dangling a guy up there this unit had a telescoping unit that at the top had a claw and a big saw blade. The claw would grab the tree, the saw would cut it, and then they'd guide the unit down to where the chipper was parked and it would all go into the chipper. Pretty big chipper I might add because it appeared to be able to chop up pieces that we'd consider logs for burning. All the while the guy operating that crane stood off to the side with a video controller and he operated the whole thing from a little game like console in his hands. Of the 8 trees (all were huge white Oaks) they cut 2 down with the crane, one with a regular bucket truck and the rest they chainsawed them the old fashioned way into the woods (and away from the house.) There was one particularly large white oak that was near to the house. He manually cut it with a chain saw and they had this little DitchWitch unit on treads. He cut a notch for the ditch witch and the ditch witch had a claw to pick logs up. He put that claw into the notch on the tree and put pressure on it and pushed at it while the other guy was cutting with the chain saw. Fell right into the woods (where its still lying two years later.) We have so many dead trees around here...all white oaks and some still standing. My next store neighbors yard looked like WW2 in the Battle of the Bulge. And, I'm debating buying a garage/shed to put out on a concrete basketball court in my yard that hasn't been used in 20 years. It was the kids play area and had a BB Hoop and I built a tennis backboard wall there. Now its the perfect pad to put a shed on.

A forestry company took down a lot of trees down the street. They would start at 7 in the morning and the noise was deafening. The immediate neighbors were not happy. The machine would grab the tree. a huge blade cut it off at the bottom and they would move it to a pile and drop it. I kept thinking of Macbeth: "Macbeth shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill Shall come against him.". I watched from afar as the trees marched along.
