Does the purchased video talk about the chemistry of using the various layers, including Vaseline, and tools and process to get the gold to reliably adhere to the leather?

It was lovely spending a little time in your workshop , listening and watching as you shared your skill and knowledge , thank you for taking the time to do so. It’s amazing to think the technology that’s contributed to the demise of such a beautiful craft, may also help to save and revive it, or at least keep its techniques and secrets safe for those yet to come . I have just bought a couple of old book binding tools which I love , your workshop is just jaw dropping, tool envy “doesn’t come close , the display and quantity of beautiful tools nearly took my breath away ! The seeds of your knowledge have now been cast far and wide, I’m sure many of them will find the right place to flourish and grow 😊Thank you again .

Dear Mr. Lloyd, A truly fascinating video about ploughing a book! Thank you very much for demonstrating the proper technique. As I learned from my father, this like many of the other steps in bookbinding is a métier requiring a steady hand, attention to detail and patience. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and expertise!.

Beautifully done! Is the paste wash the same thing as size? And what did you use to remove the unwanted gold and why did the tooled gold hold? Because it was heated? Thanks, great video!

I always wondered, what is the use of gold to hold on to the skin? , what do you have in that glass with which you put on the second book what is ready to be gilded? Thanks for the reply! I am surprised by the dexterity with which you put the letters, this must have many years of experience

Hi Trevor. I purchased your video on gold tooling and it's been great. My only question though is making the gold eraser. I've cut up a crepe eraser and added paraffin oil but nothing's happened. Been about 3 days. Are those the materials that you used or did I get something wrong?

What a great video! Thank you for sharing it. I'm an soon to be master bookbinder from Finland, although feel like such a novice still :) But it's about continuous learning, right? It is so great to be able to find videos like this, since there's not that many places to learn this kind of skills.

What a coincidence; I'm a soon to be a master bookbinder, too.... In just about 40 years, if I don't die of old age first. But the journey of a thousand books starts with the first. I'm going to start my first probably next week - it's all laid out on the table.

Hi Trevor thank you for the great video. Could I please ask if you are able to tell me how to make a paste wash. Also are you able to perhaps give me an idea of how to make my own glaire and how long does one leave the glare on for before tooling? Some of the ready-made glaire you can buy suggests 24-hours. you so much
