Once I was climbing a tree and while up there there were a bunch of carpenter bees.

One almost got me. I was trying to move around but it was following me then it started come towards me 😓

Yep they are xylocopa. Different flight patterns and habits than Bombus species. My experience with bubbles is that they will leave you shine for the most part unless you are near their nest. The carpenter bees love to fly up in your face and intimidate you but usually it's the males that do that

I found out that males have the most interaction with humans since they protect the nest. They don't sting, but they will try to dive bomb at humans. Females rarely come out of their nests since they have to lay eggs and build the colony. They are also good natured only stinging if they feel threatened.

I’m fairly fascinated by these little dudes. My favorite pastime includes sitting outside and watching these things to to work. They’re very harmless as long as you don’t directly try to interfere with them.

Ok I have a hardware store near our town that is completely full of dried unpainted wood. And there is at least 50 of these creatures flying around there. Especially on a hot day they are EVERYWHERE. That's why I hate going to that place. :/

Unload an army ant colony on that nest and the next day that nest would be toast! All videos I’ve seen of ants attacks hornet and yellow jacket nests always end with the ants dominating and the yellow jackets or hornets are either dead or leave. The larvae end up being food for the ants larvae and that ends it
