I stopped using those types of nasal decongestives altogether. I had my own stint of constant use with them. I’ll just deal with minorly being unable to breathe compared to COMPLETELY being unable to breathe through my nose.

Stop using medication for every small problem in your life! 🤌 A stuffy nose is an inconvenience, not something that needs medication to cure. Learn to deal with light pain and inconveniences to increase your resiliency. Don't fuck up your body by putting foreign stuff in it. And rinse with salt water! 🤦♀️

When I was high school I didn’t have anything to get high bc I was out of bud and I have really bad allergies, I always took Benadryl prob like 3-5 a day bc my allergies are that bad. Until one day I found out you could get a “high” off of them so I took 15 the first time and nothing really happened I just laughed a little and was kind of itchy but I think it was mostly in my head trying to seem like it was fun but it was meh. So idk remember how far apart it was maybe a few days after I wanted to try again (yeah yeah I was dumb but I was stupid back then and didn’t care to be alive so, it is what it is💀). Anyways, I took around 20 this time and boy let me tell ya, I was seeing spiders, I saw shadow people in the tv I don’t know if I saw the hat man, I was hallucinating the whole time so I remember some stuff. But I was having a conversation with my mom’s friend who lived with us for at least 20 minutes while I was laying in the bed and she was supposed to be in the bathroom…she stopped answering me so I got out of bed, mind you I couldn’t walk my body felt so heavy I had to fall off the bed and crawl to the bathroom. Turns out she was never there and she was gone for the day, so I was talking to no one. I was texting people and kept sending the wrong messages to my other friends so they were all confused. I was fucked upppppp. And I was texting my best friend who I thought was my bf but he was at basic training lol. I was so tired I was trying to fight going to sleep but I thought I was gonna go to sleep and never wake back up bc I was so out of it so I was like welp, guess they’ll find me dead on my moms bed. And before I fell asleep I felt this excruciating pain throughout my whole body like burning and stabbing feeling, and then it went dark. I woke up hours later when my moms friend came back home finally and me and her were very close, had a better relationship with her than my own mother so I told her what happened bc she knew something was up when I couldn’t read anything that was in front of my face bc my eyes were blurred for a few hours after I woke up. Obviously I don’t Benadryl anymore I’m older now and more mature. Do I regret it? Nah, it was an experience, might not have been a good one but it’s one that I’ll remember lol. 😂 funny how when I was young I thought it was a good idea. But hey, ya learn.

I was addicted to this stuff for close to a decade. I couldn't go anywhere without it and felt panicked if I realized I didn't have it. I was able to kick it when I realized that exercise/getting my heart rate up would allow me to breath. I first stopped taking it to work, and was able to stop using it daily a few months later. I do still get congestion often so I keep some around the house, but never use it more than a couple days in a row. It doesn't seem to cause serious rebound congestion if I really limit how much I use - but it still provides effective relief of congestion.

The worst part for me is not knowing exactly what caused a reaction (meaning it could happen again). For me first signs of an allergic reaction are throat swelling, ear canals swelling shut, huge hives and a racing heart. This happens right away. Sensitivities include GI distress, severe headache, small hives all over and extreme fatigue. This can happen many hours or even a day or two later.

It takes about two minutes for my body to start reacting. For cantaloupe and mango, I'll start itching from my chin all the way down my trunk - just from smelling them. If ingest them or edamame, my mouth begins to itch, then I get this sensation like I have an extra tongue growing in the back of my throat, and my voice will become noticably raspy. I had my first ED visit earlier this year after eating edamame I mistook for a greenbean. Benadryl didn't help at all and I had additional symptoms - severe wheezing, a feeling like my throat was bruised on the outside, and the sensation of having tight bands wrapped around my chest, restricting my breathing. I was on medication for a full week before those symptoms went away. I'm still trying to figure out how to remember to carry my epipens with me.

Um then what do you do when you have to sleep for work, when you can’t catch your breath when doing things at home or at work? Mouth breathing is like sipping through tiny straw. What is the in between relief? No rehab for nasal sprays huh?

I'd like to give some extra forewarning towards getting addicted to any substance. My mother was a smoker, but after she was diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer, she quit. She says that she STILL misses her cigarettes. Still enjoys the scent of them. Still misses the stress relief she says she got from using them. Addiction is a CONSTANT battle for some people, and it is a pit that they are choosing every day to not fall into. That takes strength! If you're worried about not having the strength to wean off those drugs, please consider not testing your luck by trying any of these dangerous substances!

I have only started using those sprays as an adult, when I got a semptumplastic last year. My mom used to tell us how they can make you addicted and that it destroys part of your nasal system.. It scared me :D Now I only use it when I am sick and never past 10 days, no matter how awful I feel.

My husband was very addicted to Afrin and he through I fit when I explained to him that it was actually making his nose clogged. Finally he stopped it. Funny thing is I use AFRIN for nose bleeds, the doctor told me it was ok. During my fall and spring allergies I get severe nose bleeds and they stop it. But you just squirt it right on the cut in your nose, not all up in your sinuses.

Here's the question I can never find an answer to*: Use it for 3 days, stop, and then don't use it again FOR HOW LONG? Ever? A week? A month? I only use it when I'm sick. *(even the companies won't answer)

I mean logically you should have to wait for the symptoms that prompted you to use the product in the first place to become as severe as they initially were, which would mean your body isnt under the influence of the product anymore, hence you run no risk of overuse. So in her case she probably should have waited until her nose congestion was bad enough again! (i'm not a doctor btw, just my 2 cents)

Well, this video is fake. First, why would she be filming getting into her car and then taking a sip of her drink? Second, she literally had the "Benadryl" sitting in her lap. She faked the entire thing, or she intentionally ingested an allergen for Internet clout. Either way this woman is a moron.

As you get older, you indeed have to step up your personal hygiene where you have to switch your towels and bedding more frequently, and you have to change the way you clean yourself where you have to use more exfoliants and a bath brush to clean your skin instead of just a washcloth or your hands to clean yourself. As some of the other commenters mentioned, you may have to switch to acid-based soaps (soaps that contain citric acid, hylauronic acid, and/or lactic acid) to help break down the enzymes that cause “old people smell”.

I tell fast food places im allergic to tomatoes. One place ticked me off. Ordered at work they gave me tomatoes. Luckily i was able to call and had someone pickup a remake... the AH cook on shift drenched tomatoe juice all over my lettuce. I called again and told the manager im severly allergic, took pictures and to please do somethinf. Not too long after one of my regulars comes in that works there complaining he got fired because some snowflake complained 3 times about hating tomatoes.... i told him he better be glad i didnt call corporate and the cops for trying to kill me with allergens.
