There is no rose of such virtue As is the rose that bare Jesu; Alleluia. For in this rose contained was Heaven and earth in little space; Res miranda. (A thing to marvel) By that rose we may well see That he is God in persons three, Pari forma. (Of the same form) The angels sungen the shepherds to: Gloria in excelsis Deo: Gaudeamus. (Let us rejoice) Leave we all this worldly mirth, And follow we this joyful birth; Transeamus (Let us follow)

One of my favorite choral pieces. I was lucky to perform it several times at California State University under the great John Alexander

I also remember singing this in our Madrigal group in high school. I sure didn't sing like these folks, but very much loved being part of our little group.

When I was a student in primary school we sang this song and I loved this song in billions of ways and I would touch my tummy and imagine in my mind I was Mary and I was having a baby I found that fun

My favorite high school memory was singing this with the All-State Choir my senior year. It was so moving, I think half of the singers were tearing up at how beautiful it was to sing this with a group of peers that feel the same way about music as you. It was absolutely perfect.

Was lucky enough to perform with my madrigal group my senior year of HS. Remains, to this day, my absolute favorite piece of choral music. I cannot listen to it without chills or tears. It is that effective.

I feel honored to be singing this at Carnegie Hall in Febuary! I'm in my school's Chamber Singers, and we were told by our director and instructor that we're performing this song when we go to New York at Carnegie Hall and St. Patrick's cathedral! This is inspiration! Thank you Dr. Young!

@JoinerRoberta Hi, Roberta. Thanks so much for your note. I will forward your comment on to Dr. Wynkoop. The Choral Society performs many arrangements by Robert Young, and we are thrilled that you shared this performance with his wife. All best wishes!

Dr. Young passed away on July 29, 2011 and I shared this video with his wife, Betty today, the day after his memorial. This was NOT arranged by Rutter, but was one of Dr. young's signature pieces. It was beautifully performed and we thank you for leaving this legacy for him. His niece (and former student), Roberta Roberts JoinerRo legacy

I honestly think he could have done more with the phrasing in the beginning section. He could have used so much rubato to make it not so boring! but the choir sounds lovely!
