JK Rowling doesn't have to be transphobic or trans-hating, to understand the difference between accepting people as they are, and entertaining the absurd. Transmen can menstruate, but males never will, and it's only the extreme radical fringe, (even in the trans community), that would argue otherwise. I will call a transman a man, and think of him as such, but would not think of him as male. You don't have to hate transpeople to have concerns. Laws and policies have been passed without regard to safety: a 13 year-old girl was raped by a genetic male student in a school bathroom, after he claimed to be trans. The school policy mandated that the genetic male be allowed to use the girl's room. They required no psychological screening, or any note from any mental health professional. In the past, that would not have flown. And though I generally try to use preferred pronouns, if he committed rape, I will not do him the honor of calling him "she." The act of rape forfeits all respect. If Ted Bundy Were Alive Today, Do You Think For One Minute That He Would Have Hesitated To Throw On A Skirt And Stroll Into A Ladies Room, to gain easier access to victims? I Don't!! If you are making policies about private spaces, you have to consider the privacy rights and safety of EVERYBODY in those spaces, not just one person. From what I recall of the transwomen I knew in the 80's, they wanted nothing more than to live as women. They did not draw attention to themselves. They did not engage in displays of physical strength or athletic prowess. They would have been far more likely to say, "Don't you DARE out me, by asking me to lift that heavy box in front of other people!" They were well aware that their prior lives as men, and their male genetics, made them exponentially stronger than me. They didn't show it off. Nor would any of them have thought to go swinging their pre-op junk around a lockeroom. In fact they would have been mortified by the thought. I had some quite intimate discussions with a few, who stated that they would not even show their pre-op bodies to their lovers. In the 80's, i used to run a support line, and once got a call from a male who had been arrested in a women's department store dressing room. He said that he could easily pass; short stature, slight build, & very scant facial hair. I was sympathetic, until i asked him how he got busted. He told me that a woman had complained, so i asked him why. He told me that he had been in there jerking it! So there you have it! He was NOT in there just to try on clothes, and it almost makes me vomit to think of what he was leaving on the lingerie! If you can't be in women's spaces without ogling the girls or popping a bo/\/er, then GET OUT!! What if someone were in there trying on swimsuits with their 7 & 9 year-old daughters and they saw that? There are plenty of sane and reasonable transpeople. I've known many of them. But that doesn't mean that we should be required to bow down to the demands of those few who are harmful to society, and who are also, in most cases, the loudest. Caitlyn Jenner and Blaire White had some great observations about trans athletes participating in women's sports. They have my respect. Blaire White is the prettiest girl in the world, but she bit the bullet and did a demonstration of her strength to support her argument. Caitlyn Jenner's comment about Lea Thompson beating girls in swimming was pure gold; "Is she proud of that?!?"
