Ronnie's Drive In on South Lindbergh. Got to watch the first movie and then had to lie down in the back seat to go to sleep during the second R-rated movie. These experiences with family CANNOT be duplicated today. Would it even be safe?

Many people no know, all peope ảround world throw away their old unit system and change to SI units. All civilization have diferent unit sets and replace it in 19th and 20th century. Any old unit still use now become define by SI unit.

I can't sit through 10 seconds for a tv show opening title or credit sequence now. Unbelievable we used to sit through a one-and-a-half minute theme song for the THEATER, let alone the 20 minutes of previews that would follow.

My second grade teacher taught us metric measurements, and said soon the US would convert. We practiced measuring issuing both meter and yardstick up through 4th grade ( 1978). Since I worked in labs, we always used metric there. I always wondered why we didn't totally convert. Except possibly in the building trades, it's easier. When I go to Europe, it takes me a second to switch over to kph and Celsius in my head.
@achatcueilleur5746 Жыл бұрын
Celsius requires to use decimals in all measurements. Europeans don't use metric everywhere but in most cases.

@@achatcueilleur5746 The only Europeans that don't use metric everywhere (where a metric unit exists) are the British, and they're a silly people. EDIT: Just remembered several special cases. Disregard my comment, I was being too hasty and overgeneralized.

In the United States, scientists, chemists, physicists, engineers, astronomers, biologists, architects, geologists, geographers, NASA, universities, the military, and everyone who works in academia or industry routinely use the metric system. But most ordinary people are stubborn and don't want to adapt to the metric system so they don't have to learn to multiply or divide by 10. It's just habit, comfort and mental laziness. If the US government forced them to learn and use the metric system, in a few years this problem would be history. How to do it? First of all, remove imperial units (or quirky units) from food packaging and any other container that holds anything, replacing it with metric units. Second, eliminate all urban signage that contains archaic units and change them to metric. Third, adjust weights and scales so that all unpackaged or bulk products are sold using metric units. Fourth, eliminate imperial units from all types of hand, electric, pneumatic or combustion tools, and replace them with metric units. Fifth, ban all media, under penalty of imprisonment and heavy fines, any mention of imperial units. Sixth, anyone who stubbornly does not want to adopt the metric system will be locked up for 5 years listening to Justin Bieber songs.

I think it goes all the way back to the foundation of the country. France had sent a metric ambassador to Congress but he was hijacked by pirates and never had the opportunity to present the idea completely. My guess is that the general public was not interested in anything European right after the Revolutionary War. Now it's just tradition I suppose. (personally, not a fan...I give our system 1 star...would not recommend)

We would go to Midrivers Mall growing up to see our movies. Then there was the Dollar theater right off the highway. But I remember sitting in the theater while this them was playing with the grainy audio and the occasional BOOM when they changed tracks (i guess), staring at a blank screen until the logo slowly edged up near the end. It signaled to me that I was really at the movies about to have a real movie experience. The theme was stupid, but it's forever burned into the nostalgic part of my brain. Thanks for posting.
