Listening to Spiritbox reminds me of the first time listening to Van Halen, totally new sound. Yeah, I dated myself. Courtney & Mike... plus Zev back there pushing the tempo and keeping it from falling apart--just like Alex Van Halen. Courtney has my favorite cleans in 'core.

Man I honestly can’t imagine being a progressive metal fan and randomly stumbling across Northlane without knowing who they are in 2022 lol. Such an interesting and fun new journey to experience in listening to their stuff now. Rot is a good next choice for Northlane, it was the first big single they released after getting a new vocalist. Or in a similar style, check out some of Volumes earlier stuff if you haven’t already!

Just as an FYI, this entire album ‘Drift’ was written basically from scratch to be the perfect music to disassociate to. Jesse (guitar/clean vocals) said that they pretty much out this album together to be the perfect album to have on in the background while doing or thinking of something else. Just for a little context on how and why it’s structured the way it is.

Hence the title track ending with a little “let your mind drift” before fading out of a heavily dissonant and syncopated outro

Jesse Cash (the clean vocalist and their guitar player) also has his own side-project band Ghost Atlas. Definitely recommend checking it out (There are a lot of good songs but I recommend "Technicolor" - it really shows the power of his voice and instrumental complements it beautifully)

Great insight, glad you enjoyed the song -side note, if you're not familiar with Veil of Maya, Silent Planet, or Monuments I would suggest giving them a listen also. Kind of in the same progressive metalcore world as Erra

ah, Snowblood. the first song I ever heard from the best band in the world. at first i thought it was too heavy for me, and then the chorus kicked in out of nowhere. Jesse's high pitched vocals really caught me off guard, and then the unexpected major chord shift had me hooked straight away. if you want more heavy awesomeness like this, Gungrave is probably the next best step. it has one of, if not the best riff of 2021 towards the end that always reminds everyone of how much they suck at guitar. if you want a taste of their softer stuff again, then give Vanish Canvas, Augment + Dementia (their masterpiece), The Hypnotist (one of my absolute favs) and Lunar Halo a shot. others that I gotta recommend are Eye of God (the ERRA all-rounder), Nigh to Silence, Breach (this one has my favourite lyric of all time), Spirits Away, Warrior (more great lyrics), Remnant (great chorus on this one) and Vaalbara. actually, just listen to anything and everything. there isn't a bad ERRA song out there.

my favourite from this EP is probably warrior. the section where jesse sings "i am the silence in piercing sound, keep me close to you now. i am the shadow that tames the moon, and paints the earth" is just so beautiful

Thank you so much for this upload.. going to see them live for the 1st time in February with my fiance who has seen them once before and from everything I have heard.. both from albums, and from people who have seen them live; it will be incredible. The only true mixture of progressive death core I've ever heard; which should be impossible.

I love your appreciation for everything the band does in the songs. The way you reacted when you first heard the chorus in Orchid is exactly how I did; I pretty much just threw my hands up and said fuck, this is just amazing. The perfect package. Erra has been my favorite band for years and I love to see people explore their music and become a fan too 🤘 would love to see you check out their song Breach and Eye of God. also if you are curious, I have a video on my channel of them playing Orchid live if you want to see how they end it live 😁

ERRA is the best man you gotta check out their newer and older stuff. For newer I’d say house of glass, shadow autonomous, lunar halo, and vanish canvas with Courtney from spiritbox. For older, they’re Augment album is one of the best albums ever made but for sure alpha seed, frostbite, hybrid earth, rebirth, spirits away, and dementia, which might be the best album closer I’ve ever heard.

As far as I'm aware, Drift (the song) is about letting your mind be taken away by hallucinogens. It's not one of my top songs from the album (but then again, I love the whole album so that's cheating). Yet, it really does encapsulate the whole experience of a trip I feel. Then there's Orchid. Man, what a beautiful song. Orchid was actually written about the band's old second guitarist, Alan Rigdon. It's really a power song - that chorus could easily lift anyone up. One of ERRA's best, for sure: although unfortunate that they don't usually play it live, except for at VIP pre-shows sometimes. By the way, the older guitarist I was talking about actually uploaded a cover of a small part of this song, giving it his own twist. It's uploaded to his new band's channel, The Artificials. Highly recommend you check it out. Speaking of recommending, I've mentioned Augment + Dementia - that is by far the one I recommend to you the most. Everything in that song is perfect, and highly impressive. If you want more from Drift, The Hypnotist is the way to go, as you mentioned. Or, if you want others, then make sure to check out Breach, Monolith, Gungrave, Snowblood, Eye of God, Rebirth and Spirits Away. Can't go wrong, really.

Skyline is my favourite song of all time, and Irreversible is also one of my favourite songs by ERRA. Thanks so much for reacting to them, it means the world. The Hypnotist is another great one from the same album (it's an absolute proghouse), but if you wanna check out their masterpiece, make sure to check out Augment + Dementia. It features their old unclean vocalist, Garrison Lee. He's quite different from JT (the current unclean vocalist) as his low growls are gnarly but his high screams pierce your soul. The main thing that stands out in Dementia though, is Jesse's clean vocals. You'll LOVE it man.

i LOVED this song on first listen. i love the way it teases you with a few seconds of the pre-breakdown riff before the second chorus, giving off a kind of impending doom feel. if you like Spiritbox, you really should check out ERRA man. Spiritbox allowed me to discover ERRA and let me tell you, they are by FAR my favourite band of all time. they're a bit of a step up in terms of heaviness, but they're one of those bands that have mastered both their soft and heavy sound. here's some song recommendations: emotional: Skyline, Vanish Canvas (there's a version with Courtney from Spiritbox if you wanna check that out), The Hypnotist, Orchid, Augment + Dementia (ERRA's masterpiece) heavy: Gungrave, Eye of God, Hybrid Earth, Snowblood (this was the first song I ever heard from them), Scorpion Hymn others: Nigh to Silence, Alpha Seed, Lunar Halo, Breach, Valhalla, The Architect if you want more Spiritbox, i highly suggest you take a listen to Halcyon. it's similar to this song but the bridge section is just so ethereal and beautiful, i broke down crying when i heard it live.

Hey my bday is on June 15, this year turning 33. Got to confess I have loss in my life when my father died of brain tumor, after that realization of unavoidable end which lead to feeling of loneliness and current pandemic time just emphase that during which I also lost my grandma watching her dying slowly in pain. Architects' album Holly Hell came like a comfort of some way for me, I dived into Tom's lyrics and listened to their old music which I also enjoyed a lot. RIP T//S
