It took me years to beat this game when I was a kid. Swinging underneath the blimp is ridiculous. Then the ending says "Try the game on hard mode and you can win a secret code." I didn't do either of those things.

This was an awesome game! During character creation, you should reroll until your get prime stats for each class. Then, memorize spells on the mage before you do anything and your cleric as well. Furthermore, your back row melee should use throwing weapons or bow. You can also pick up rocks with cursor and weapons to throw them with cursor at mobs. The best tactic is to keep moving and let mobs move in front of you and then attack them before they turn. Then, move again and make them move in front of you. Basically, this tactic allows you to get in free attacks without the mobs being able to get positioned to attack you. Try again, with these things in mind and you'll enjoy it a lot more.

The falling "help" guys upgrade weapon and maybe restore health(I don't remember for sure, but health restores in this game). It's way more fun to have upgraded weapon and rather necessary(just like in Gradius). The hard difficulty makes harder to control the head. I am not sure I completed the game on hard. Also this game is like a parody. So making controls worse on hard difficulty is actually funny in this case.
@buckstarproductions6063Ай бұрын
I knew they did something. I feel it was healing me i never noticed any kind of weapon upgrades. That is what i was noticing and commented on at the end when i played on Hard, that the head seemed to fly weird and moved exaggerated and drifted. I have to say I really Do like that hard , rather then change the game, changed You and your controlling and would have liked to see that implemented in other games.
@arseniyАй бұрын

@buckstarproductions6063Ай бұрын
its mostly the same honestly. They are both challenging.
@exi2286Ай бұрын
The biggest difference I noticed between the two games was st1 was grid based. All jumps were measured and you always jumped one square on the grid. It was limiting but also tight and satisfying. Same with the enemy hit detection the enemies had the same grid based rules as we did so they couldn’t get under you and like hump you to death anywhere so easily. St2’s jumps are fluid? Aren’t measured? The game looks the same visually but they removed the grid, so we have like more control of Mike and jumps but so does the enemy and it turns out making the jumps less measured also makes the gameplay less tight and kinda sloppy feeling? Just my take!
@buckstarproductions6063Ай бұрын
NO i totally agree with you. It really does make the game just that much off.

@TrevPureАй бұрын
You remembered the order, with the shapes which is the first step. Now you just gotta actually GO in said order. So yeah, it is totally on you, lol. But it's okay, now that you know you can advance. This game is fun (though not as good as the first) and offers a satisfying challenge if you've got the skill to tackle it.

I asked on Reddit/RetroGaming a similar games to this one(at least for the side view part). And what I got suggested are Ninja Gaiden likes, or just games with Ninjas, which are all more similar to Ninja Gaiden than to Ninja Zen. I guess people percept Ninja Zen through those Ninja games stereotypes and expect it to be similar, while it is not. And probably would take some time to detach from "lets play another Ninja Gaiden" expectations and start to accept the game for what it actually is.
@buckstarproductions60632 ай бұрын
i think in part like i said in video was it is similar to Gremlins and alittle star tropics. But allot is just unique to itself in alot of respects.
@arseniy2 ай бұрын
In the manual there is description of all the abilities. The game was supposed that you read the manual. In options Easy difficulty could be chosen, and 4 lives instead of 2. That is helpful to beat the game for the first time. But it still would not be easy. But it's rather easier game than Ninja Gaiden and most of Megamans.
@buckstarproductions60632 ай бұрын
yeah i realized that afterword's that i never went into the settings. Granted even if i did i would not have put on easy... LOL.
@arseniy2 ай бұрын
It takes some time to get into. The first plays for me were very confusing, was not sure what to do and how. Figuring out thing by thing. The game was highly enjoyable, played it through dozens of times. It doesn't match modern standards to provide learning curve and throws into challenge right away.
@buckstarproductions60632 ай бұрын
That it does. I normally like to figure things out on games i enjoy but i just could not get into this one at all .
@arseniy2 ай бұрын
@@buckstarproductions6063 I can't say if you would like the game back then when you would spend time to get into a game, but I suspect you would. I think you misunderstood this game completely. Expecting it to be like something familiar. While it similar to a point, it is like nothing else on NES and probably SNES as well. Also isometric factory level is not as hard if one read the manual and understand that while constantly attacking in the air, then ninja can fly longer. Which is mentioned in the manual. However I see people review the game and not use this feature, and then complain the isometric factory level is too hard on platforming, while it is not, because you have the ability to float 2 times longer. And that feature feels amazing by the way.
@buckstarproductions60632 ай бұрын
NO i never go in expecting it to be like anything. I like to give the game fair run on its own merits. I know i do after playing start to compare to some games but just for comparison. I do fully understand that this like a good few of them that game would be different if i had the instructions. I didnt feel that the factory was hard i was just screwing up on the jumping. I will see about going and doing a part 2 on the game and check it out.

lol, it's one of the most famous NES SHMUP. You just need to use another button to use subweapons that you get by picking the numbers. Number means the subweapon type. The thing I hate about this game, it has live changing difficulty, the better you play, the harder the game becomes.

I think when you lose the hat(extra armor) then you don't lose weapon. Yeah, I just checked it right now and weapon stay when you lose the hat. On next level instead of the hat there is other item act as extra armor. Also you can ride vehicles at some levels. You can jump over the horse it's quite easy. The game get some time to get used to the controls and hitboxes of the ground.

I was fooled too as a kid, but this isn't a Sunsoft game. While they did publish it, Midway was the developer. I don't remember the game from the arcades too well, but this port isn't as bad as many claim. But if you aren't into learning the high score mechanics or playing in co-op you won't get as much out of it.
