This company has very little info put out there. Hard to find one to even look at. You have to order it sight unseen , and have faith ,it will be what you need. Like Ghost lathes. Mythical even......was hoping to find a video on the 1640 before I pulled the trigger and ordered it......nothing here.On youtube.

@@billystray7007 Hello Billy. I received my unit yesterday and the instructions show "how" to use the unit to set planer knives. As you may suspect, they simply show it "up-side down". I think my EMA (Italian) planer will allow for enough room below the cutter head to fit the OneWay unit under it. I am please with the unit - it seems robust and comes with 2 tips to go on the end of the plunger. Thanks !

I had the same question as Zip Zit. The video AND the written instructions I received are incomplete because they tell you nothing about mounting the wheel to your grinder except to eliminate a dished washer. My grinder has TWO dished washers per wheel. Do I eliminate them both? Do I snug up the nut against the balance system or should there be TWO flat washers per wheel? One inboard and one outboard? I mean it's obvious that the balancer stays attached to the wheel. The rest of the assembly, not so obvious. I emailed Oneway for some clarity but have yet to receive further instructions. For now, my grinder sits while I wait for a simple answer or diagram. Come on Oneway, Zip Zit asked the question 3 YEARS AGO!

Hi, what’s outdated in your opinion? Thinking about buying one on a reduced price. Seems a solid machine, excellent banjo and toolrest, don’t really like the swing away operation box maybe? The robust comes at almost double the price now compared to the 2416 i saw.

I've used the Oneway balancing system on a DeWalt grinder/Norton stone setup. Before installing the system, the inexpensive 8" bench grinder was incredibly noisy and wanted to vibrate and fight its way off of whatever surface it was mounted to. Installation was a breeze, and afterwards the whole setup ran smoothly, quietly and with no distracting vibration to fight against. Night and day difference. Transformed my $150 bench grinder from an "Ugh, I have to use the grinder-shaped object again..." into a favorite tool that I can quickly and consistently achieve high quality results from. Worth every penny of the $70 I paid in 2008. Keep your balancing bracket, because you'll re-use it on other grinding wheels. I considered buying extra flanges, but I rarely change wheels, and re-balancing can be done quickly. If you allow a few additional minutes to allow the wheels to settle completely on their own, as well as work a bit more carefully, you'll be rewarded with the ability to achieve greater precision in your tool shaping efforts. I also loaned this system to a skeptical friend who had a much higher quality made in the USA stand mounted machine shop grinder. His system was very nice and ran reasonably quiet, with the mass of the grinder and stand soaking up most of the vibrations. Similar difference in outcomes as I experienced, only his setup ran much so much more smoothly. It was ran eerily quiet. In fact, after he installed the system, he installed a warning light above the grinding station to remind him to not to walk away from it without forgetting to turn it off.

For hollowing devices used on hollow forms. The hollowing devices need to be used from the end of the lathe bed so you are looking straight into the opening of the hollow form. So you need to swing the tailstock out of the way. Hard to use hollowing devices when you are leaning over the lathe bed.

Yes balanced on the balancer.. so how's does that work when placed on the grinder ?
@gilbertodiaz-castro626

Poor advice. NEVER try to speed the process by "helping to help the wheel to settle" this can bring to stop the wheel out of balance. Only by allowing it to stop by its own can you find the true balance point. Two, when you tighten the hub to the wheel don't over tighten, all it takes is a tug to produce the 20-25LB-FT required; if you over tighten it, it can crack the stone. The best advise you can get about this balancer is to follow the manufacturers WRITTEN instructions, remember they were written by the ones who designed it, after all they KNOW the equipment.

Nice video. Er. wait just a moment? I'm getting the impression that the video isn't finished. Do we now install the wheel, with balancing kit attached, to our grinder? How do things stay tight for the life of the wheel? Any tips and tricks to using the wheel with this balancer in place?
@TheMadMagician87
@TheMadMagician87 3 жыл бұрын
Obviously many years late, but yes, you install the wheel with the balancing kit attached (otherwise the wheel just goes back to being its unbalanced old self as soon as you remove it). This process is called static balancing, which is a good start. Technically something like this should be dynamically balanced, but no one is going to go there and bother for a $20 grinder wheel and $100 grinder.

Yes, it should. I recently spoke with Susan from Oneway about this over the phone, and subsequently ordered a 16 inch version of this banjo for my Powermatic 3520b lathe. I'd recommend you give her a call at 1-800-565-7288 because you probably can fit one on your lathe, and she'll be able to let you which version you need for your lathe specifically. I've heard nothing but praise for this banjo, and according to those whom have experience with it, you will be glad you got one!

I bought one of these a couple of years ago after getting frustrated trying to accurately set my planer knives by other means. This tool is the best thing for the job bar none. It is stable, accurate, with a big foot to touch the blade arc and is hefty on the table. I wouldn't be without it now for the setting of planer knives.
