PAMELA Anderson and Jamie Lee curtis has a good chance for Oscar nominations for The Last Showgirl
@ImmortalBroken2 күн бұрын
When you look at the cast lists under ensemble, with each actor's name AND character name listed, that's why Sing Sing didn't show up. Because 75% of the names would say "AS HIMSELF." The performances are tremendous but they are judged differently because of this. Maclin will likely miss out on the Oscar nom for this reason, but I don't think Sing Sing is out of Best Picture unless it misses PGA.

I’m so happy about Demi Moore’s nomination!🤩 I’ve absolutely adored her ever since General Hospital in 1982.💖Just watched her again in NO SMALL AFFAIR on Tubi. My gosh she’s so beautiful in it!💖 And it’s so neat seeing Jon Cryer, Tim Robbins & Jennifer Tilly so young in it.😃

This is clearly BAFTA's for you. Some of the movies/actors they nominate are weird. They really have a clear problem with Black films. The London Critics did FAR BETTER than this. I am loving the love for Kneecap ☘️🇮🇪💚 and I'm glad to see Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Michele Austin in the longlist but no Hard Truths for Original Screenplay?????? I knew Colman Domingo would be longlisted but I was scared for Clarence Maclin but happy he made the longlist. Great to see Denzel Washington in the longlist even though he won't get nominated; I don't understand BAFTA's problem with him 😡

You could handle The substance. I closed my eyes for some parts. Go into the theater and get bombarded by the incredible sound, with a blindfold. Still worth hearing if you can’t see it.

I've thought about it, if anything I could just skip around the movie just to witness the larger picture. Although I typically tell myself "it's ok", but my brain says otherwise and refuses to accept any incoming blood (hence the fainting) 😅

Best Film of 2024

These nominations are better than the Golden Globes. They did justice for Danielle Deadwyler (I saw The Piano Lesson and her performance excelled), Kneecap (loved this film), Nickel Boys (I need to see this film) and Sing Sing (also need to see this film)

@thetrisonАй бұрын
I saw the Substance before this and I was afraid like you with the body horror thing, but I found the movie to be just alright. Not that bad. I even had food watching it. Felt fine. Some sad moments but filled with comedic stuff throughout. Watch it y'all.

The nominees weren’t all that bad. Yeah we had some heavy snubs like Sing Sing, Baptiste, Saturday Night and Deadwyler, but overall, the nominations were good. Edit: its nice to see recognition for The Substance, All We Imagine As Light, A Complete Unknown, The Apprentice, Pamela Anderson and Yura Borisov

The Globes were globing. No Marianne Jean Baptiste but Kate Winslet for a bad film NO ONE saw? Ridiculous....no Clarence Maclin, no Danielle Deadwyler. Emilia Perez with 10 nominations!? Denis missing Director. Other than The Substance, these nominations are hot garbage ass.

I feel you. They've certainly done better last year. Some pretty bad snubs you mentioned, but also not a whole lot of love for Nickel Boys either. 🤦♂️🤦♂️

I guess the most disappointing thing I've learned about many awards is that performance matters the least. 'momentum' and influence are the real factors
@jgog592 ай бұрын
Kneecap is a must see. The lads play themselves. It’s their origins story their Irish speakers from Belfast, so theyre irish citizens. The music is great Michael Fassbender has a supporting role. The film is mostly an Irish with some English and they rap mostly in Irish. It’s kind of like the Beatles “Á hard days night” meets Trainspotting. It’s really outrageously energetic.

How can you put Nickle Boys and not Sing Sing, DP Pat Scola???? Pat Scola filmed that movie in 19 days in 16 mm with a small crew. The shots from Nickle Boys seem to mimic the shots from Scola's style.

We are now deciding on the winner or nominees based on whether they are overdue or narrative, not because of their performance?🧐🧐
@oscarguyhere66632 ай бұрын
This has been the case for quite some time! It's unfortunate but true 🤷♂ Not to say that performance merit means nothing, but narrative is a huge factor.

If Timothee Chalamet wins, he will be the same age (29) as Adrien Brody was when he became the youngest Best Actor winner. But if Paul Mescal wins, he will take over the title at age 28.

Have you actually seen The Outrun? If the lead was somebody else, nobody would even predict an Oscar-winning performance. More importantly, There is zero passion for the movie or Ronan's performance. Even if she gets in, she isn't winning anything.
@oscarguyhere66633 ай бұрын
Will hopefully see The Outrun very soon; it hasn't been showing anywhere near me. But yes, I hear the film itself is average at best, and Ronan carries it single-handedly. Although I disagree about her perfomance having no passion behind it. I've heard nothing but raves about her from every source that I've come across, especially on X/Twitter, which has surprisingly been a pretty effective platform for word-of-mouth buzz and campaigning (rememeber Risebourough from a couple years ago?)
@tiffanywitherspoon87223 ай бұрын
I actually would put my money on Ronan winning as well.

Parasite got Palm Dor like Anora, and as a Korean film with a huge social commentary which anybody can resonate with its story and characters anywhere in the world. What is Anora's social message / commentary? CODA is small film with a big surprise which doesn't happen very happen at oscars. There was no passion for Power of the dog or Belfast. West side story is a kinda remake, Drive my car got international film anyway. Nightmare alley and Dont look up managed to get some momentum in the last minute. Licorice Pizza didn't get the actress which everyone thought Haim would be in. Vote split and CODA got the BP. Anora might get some surprise nominations but apart from screenplay , it is not winning anything else.
@oscarguyhere66633 ай бұрын
Good points re: the 2021/2022 season! Although I think Anora's commentary might be on shining a light on the sex worker industry (they screened the movie for sex workers & strippers a while back that went extremely well), but that may or may not catch onto Academy voters. If anything, the film is just very well-made, a crowd pleaser with plenty of laughs, and has a lot of heart. That's what we're going off of for now 🤷♂
