I was a young man playing little league baseball in Johnstown, PA for R C Cola in the Lorain Moxham little league when this happened. At the time Pirate games were shown on TV very sparingly. At any rate this was the greatest game ever pitched even though he was the LP. Who in this day and age would ever pitch 12 and 2/3 perfect innings?

Apparently, Hank Aaron abandoned the base line after reaching 2nd base, and was passed by Joe Adcock, because he thought that the ball did not pass over the fence on the fly. Under baseball rules only one run was allowed to score to end the game 1-0. Hypothetically, it would have been interesting if there were two outs at the time instead of only one. Would the winning run be allowed to score? I think it would depend on whether Mantilla crossed home plate before Adcock passed Aaron. What a mess that would have been to make that determination on the field.

Its sad to think all them people who traveled thoses stairs. It was like a 2nd home for us steel workers, so many holidays spent there, birthdays, good times with co workers who were like family. We worked long hours and then One day you get evicted and thats it.

Was there in the mid 50's for a Pirates game. It was Coconut Day, a dump truck, they were smaller then, came onto the field and dumped it's load for all the kids to to run out & grab one or two old brown dried up things. I was much more interested in eating Eskimo Pie's & hot dogs & peanuts then watching old men play baseball, as playing pickup games with other kids was real fun.
