I think the funny thing and misconception about the guard is that they don’t have such enormous casualties because the generals are incompetent (though they sometimes are, like the first guy in charge of Vraks). Imperial generals are by and large extremely tactical, it’s just the guard has to take tremendous casualties to compete with basically every other army.

You feel the rush of the warp, the feeling of immortality at your grasp. Yet, you feel someone coming. From behind you, the faint sound of masterwork chainswords hum, their machine spirits content and patient yet, still as determined as the day they were created. There is an old man, standing there, gazing at you with a righteous burning hatred. Something like this hasn't been seen in a servant of the corpse emporer since the days of the Horus Heresy. This old man, by the name of "Abelard", killed your entire command squad by himself, and now, stands over your bloodied kneeling body. The old man winds up his chainsword one last time and the last thing you ever hear, is the sound of the blades severing your head from your body. You, "Abadon The Despoiler" finally die, at the hands of a seemingly "meer mortal". Abadon would get folded by Abelard, no contest.

Fun fact, in you give abalard premonition and puff with with all of henrix's buffs, he will practically never take damage, give him a power hammer and he'll do at least 100 damage a attack lol
