"Musical talents"? He was mediocre at best, chosen for his looks. The drummer and singer were brilliant, the other two embarrassingly bad.

They were originally named Fish Hippos. Nick Hexum joined the band and said that the name had to change when he joined the band for their first show. They were billed Fish Hippos, but they opened their set and announced themselves to be "311." This is from a video where Hexum himself retells the story.

It could be a mondegreen, especially if song lyrics were misheard on a scratchy old LP. Phrases like 'better than ever', 'better than others' (Some Kinda Love by the Velvet Underground), or 'better and better' (Watch That Man by David Bowie) are possibilities to consider.

Bruh, you literally bashed Dexys’ name. The band’s name was actually named after a drug (Dexedrine - Dexys). It was a drug that was used in the Northern Soul scene to give people energy to dance all night long. Hence the name, Dexys Midnight Runners.
