It seems that the Fjälkinge shelf is no longer produced or sold by Ikea-at least not within the US.

Is there a similar substitute, ikea appears to have discontinued these

I love them fjalkinge shelfs from IKEA. I have four of them with drawers on the bottom .They are awesome for any decor use and display collectables

Thanks for the video... lots of info packed in..., and now I'm gonna have to actually watch it again while trying not to envy all your Lego. LOL

Can these be floating, like in the middle of a room, or would they be too tipsy not against a wall?
@TheRealJimW6 ай бұрын
From what I can tell he doesn't have them flush to the wall (no "safety" mounts either) and they didn't seem to rock as he messed with stuff on the shelf. But I'd also assume he has them on wood or tile floors.

anything that is higher than a regular table should be secured against tipping over. Easiest way to do that is by securing it against a wall. You don’t want your kids or pets get hurt when they climb in it and it falls over or it falling over during an earthquake or other natural disaster.

Don't they get dusty if you dont enclose them in the shelves?

Yes. Dust happens.

'Perfect' ones would have glass imo.. The Besta range is great too, but get pretty expensive especially with doors.

I can’t seem to find this in Australia. Are they discontinued?
@sterow-lego Жыл бұрын
I just had a look on the ikea page and can’t find it either; it was there only a few weeks ago when I made the video. It’s worrying as they wouldn’t normally take a page down if it was just out of stock. Frustrating coincidence if they have discontinued it.

I counted the use of "particularly" five times in the first minute haha

What is wrong with you that you would bully a 23 subscriber youtuber because he repeated a word when nervous on a video? From someone who won't even talk in their own videos and just blares techno music.

@@CandyCorn61938Ha, thanks, just saw this when replying to another comment. Fortunately this kind of person doesn’t register, just glad if even a few people found it useful.

Great video! I looked at the FJÄLKINGE a while back for something else and never considered they'd make great shelves for LEGO. I'll have to seriously consider upgrading to these, as I'm currently using a VITTSJÖ shelf to display my modulars and they have a few limitations (no shelf adjustability, vertical bar in the middle, overall width, and difficult to hide shelf lighting since the shelves are glass).
@DenisSong Жыл бұрын
One thing I forgot to mention that folks should be aware of is the difference in price. A (white) BILLY bookcase and a VITTSJÖ shelf unit are $69 and $79, respectively, in the US, but the FJÄLKINGE shelf unit is $249.

Cheers. Glad this has been useful to someone. On price - I'm in Australia, and interestingly, those USD prices are pretty close to Australian dollar prices. While it's always really hard to compare prices across countries, it does seem like Ikea furniture is a bit more expensive in the US compared to Australia, in real terms.

I don't use lighting kits or lighting myself so don't have much insight on that aspect, though I imagine the open backs and sides are a big part of what you need in terms of allowing for wires.
