I'm looking at buying one of these next week. Maybe not a Canadian winter vehicle after all...

Sounds like your block heater has died. When my block heater was working properly it started like summer time even at -20. Dealer couldn't even order one. Obsolete part. I went to Oreilleys and they had them. Dealer tells me the motor mount is in the way, have to support engine, remove motor mount, then the block heater. Two hours labor=$300.

I have a liberty crd now. 2005. He came from Kentucky. I had to replace upper arms ball joints front brake rotors left front axle shocks struts, two back tires, and they brushed it with a steel brush on a drill and rust was flying off everywhere. That's from being in Kentucky in the salt in the sand and snow and dirt and whatever. My hat's off to Discount Tire

Had a 94 Mercedes turbo diesel 300. Lived in Kentucky for a couple of years only had to plug it in to keep the diesel fuel warm about 2 or 3 times

Im going to guess you plugged in the block heater not long before you tried to start it. Not mention that these have a glow plug relay they don't stay on very long as you can tell after a few starts the light for the glow plugs doesn't even come on anymore. Only other thing I've thought about doing for these lil beasts is plumbing in a lil either injection between the intercooler and the intake.... I guess in a pinch you could pull the air-cleaner and give it a small shot before the turbo but a small shot!

As a big diesel truck owner I can say don’t listen to anyone else saying rev it to keep it running, it’s dead cold, revving it when cold is one of the worse things you can do to any vehicle nothing is warmed up. I’m not sure if these have glowplugs like my 6.0 or a grid heater like Cummins but either way just keep cycling like you did & it’s fine, anything under 20 though id plug it in
@glennschlorf12852 жыл бұрын
They have glow plugs and are direct injected diesels. Just applying some throttle when cold does not cuase em any harm unless you crazy rev it...

why you didn't give some extra rpm to prevent engine die?

Turn key to on position for a few minutes to allow the glow plugs to warm the block!

A few minutes ? What’s wrong with you people they shut off after like 30 seconds, just plug them in and use additives

Should have been holding your foot down a bit to keep it going and get the oil pressure up asap, that's what I do on my TDI anyway. Also, I don't know if it's just how it's designed or not, but I would never said so long in between running the glow plugs like that. -end rant-

You have to use winter fuel additive and have it plugged in below 20 degrees. My CRD started perfect when plugged in.

OMG that thing sounds horrible! HAHA My old 78 Mercedes 300D would start on 2 cycles of the glow plugs which btw were ORIGINAL back in 2001 still! WVa freezing below zero...I was surprised too though but yes, that old tank was quite the runner..guess that's why that engine in those 300D's was regarded as one of the million mile motors..Still love these rare Liberty CRD's!! Never see them down here in FL though..
@fjb49325 жыл бұрын
I know women that know better than to let the fuel level get below half a tank. And in winter ? ! It's a piss-poor practice. Shameful...

Niiicce! Cold fucking day in Saskatchewan...it was also colder in Winnipeg today. I'm assuming Sask from the quick glimpse of the green license plate. I did a cold start this morning at -34...it black smoked for at least 30 seconds.
