I remember an interview in the San Diego Tribune in 1969. To do the interview, they had to fly to Vancouver, British Columbia, rent a car, and take a ferry to Vancouver Island. He lived in Saanich, which is a suburb of Victoria.

At 6:35, there is a shot with the new bridge, and without the old one, so it's at least after 1981

And then the instrument disappeared, ca. 2014. There was an article a few years back and evidently it was either trashed or deemed surplus by the local authorities

My husband bought me Hero’s and Heroines, a collection of Tlingit and Haida tales and Naatsilane is one of those tales. I’ve unfortunately grown up away from Tlingit culture and community. I understand I won’t be part of it, but I appreciate every moment I can look inside. This video perfectly puts life into the tale of Naatsilane❤

That's my old ball coach Riley Richey and Dave Hainey. This was filmed in 1996, the year before I became a Freshman. Good memories here. Thank you for putting this up.

The entire valley is a flood plane. I’ve been saying this for decades. Yet people keep building there. I have also been telling people here that as the glacier recedes don’t be surprised if it contains hides unknown lakes of water and hidden rivers. The elevation change from mendenhall lake to crest over is minimal. These floods are a warning of the worst yet to come.

Have always loved Tom's work from the beginning of his NPR days. I finally made it to Alaska for several summers a number of yrs ago. I made a point to go to Homer because it was in Tom's words "the end of the road." Even took the ferry over to Soldotna on that trip and had some real adventures in Alaska. Some fine humans live there. Love Small Comforts. Nice post, thanks

This is a great PSA and a neat example of early 3D animation. I'm going to use this in some music I'm making but will probably have to re-record the voiceover...at 186,000 miles per second.

Wow I had no idea this logging camp operated through 1997. I was 8 years old and lived there in 1988, 1989 and our family left in 1990. I have so many memories of this place and I remember the exact house we lived in up on the hill. I remember playing in the muskeg, fishing down at the float houses, going to the cookhouse to get ice cream and so much more. My family also has many stories as well from this place. Memorable moments from our family living there: a bear getting into the cookhouse, my uncle almost going over the side of the cliff on the road you were driving on during the winter, a large generator exploding.

I remember back in 1967 living at Ratz Harbor on the east side of Prince of Wales Island watching these same boats go by from our little cabin on the hill. I would have loved to ride one during a winter storm, Like the captain said, they got pounded but there was no danger. That was a long time ago, time for some new Ferrys Alaska!
