Fun fact: The knife we see here as the Original Texas Hunter had a previous incarnation. It was originally designed to have nickel-coloured plating on the hilt, and a different slogan on the blade. In this, its original guide, it was issued to officers in the RAD during the late 1930s. Just like the knife carried by the then German equivalent of the Boy Scouts, after the hostilities had finished, these items of military kit were reimagined, tweaked to suit the new situation, and sold as hunting or camp knives.

@@nature_sweet_vibes 4034 (actually 1.4034) is a classic Solingen blade steel that combines edge retention, corrosion resistance and easy resharpening. The German steel has a hardness of 54 to 55 HRC.

@@jakeivdbach4665 thx man for all the info ! I am trying to catalogue mine. Btw as you said in the video there were only 250 issued (altought I understood there are also 100 made for US). Mine has 228 carved directly into the brass guard (only 228 not 228/250 ) and not into the blade like yours. That is why I am trying to understand if it is from the same collection. Other than this looks identical like yours.

@@nature_sweet_vibes I'm pretty sure it was in 2010, I'll have to look through the old catalogs again. The edition (only 250 pieces) with the chestnut handle wasn't the first. There were unlimited versions with walnut, oak and stag horn, among others.

@@nature_sweet_vibes Must improve. The first version was probably the "Buffalo Bill Edition", which was also limited. This Bowie was introduced back in 1998. It had a nice etched blade and a stag handle. The walnut Bowie followed in 1999.
