@@DuncsDungeon I play a lot with younger kids. They are often complete noobs. I play with the Essentials Kit (like it better than a Starter Kit, because it is more complete and it's still a FREE pdf download from evil Wizbro at the moment). I give them target number (AC or DC). When they roll a 20, everyone screams YEAH. I don't like the rest of 5e, basically use rules light and BX/BECMI principles to keep the game moving. I really love your videos because I steal bits from old and new modules/adventures and use them regularly. Even if they HAVE happened to have played the specific scene, I rotate the map, change a few exits etc, change a few bits and no one ever notices.

On the healing potion mimic, what if that particular mimic has a perchance for weird alchemy. Deriving its ingredients from its victims and brewing, internally, various potions. Its able to appear as any number of potions, how it feels about the imbiber determines which potion it actually delivers. Call it a poly potion bottle. An interesting 'magic' item similar to the jar that can once per day produce 2 gallons of various materials. Every adventurer wants one, prowls their camp at night eating various vermin. The adventurers are oddly cleaner than they were, the lice infestation they got is magically gone. The ticks in the fields that they usually have to pick off seem to leave them alone. Occasionally, something has woken them just in time to prevent a gruesome coup de gras they never would have awakened from. Sometimes the command word fails but a more interesting alternative that was oddly appropriate is delivered instead. The bottle even disappeared once after a known pick pocket brazenly ran off, somehow it was back again. Though there was that other time. The claims that guy made were insane. . . .

Nice idea. Might incorporate it into what I call 'mimic swamp' in one of my settings. TL;DR: A very old and smart mimic moved out of a dungeon and grew massive, feasting on fish and bugs and occasionally gators in a swamp. Then if found a tribe of goblins. It made them a deal: They tend its fish-farm and bring it more food, it'll keep them safe. They agreed, after their old chief got eaten. Eventually, the mimic spawned, creating smaller mimics. And an old bit of 3rd/4th edition lore says that if there are enough mimics in an area, they develop a telepathic hive mind. Soon, mimics had replaced every hut in the goblin village, and every goblin was wielding a strangely well-made knife/sword and wearing strangely fancy steel circlets on their heads. The mimics have been guiding the goblins, training them and feeding them tactical information. Their swords are mimics, their hats are mimics, and their homes are mimics. No goblin in the tribe can be surprised, if one goblin sees something, they're all immediately informed.

This is a fun idea! It does say that mimics can look like anything at all, it's just common for them to look like treasure chests. So, one that is a mother mimic of sorts could infact exist, it doesn't say where they come from as far as know.
@DuncsDungeon2 ай бұрын
Yeah, playing into the stereotype of what adventures expect, the Broodmother mimic gives them what they most desire (a giant chest of treasure), in a way that they think they have the upper hand but is actually a death trap for all but the most powerful party. Either way the Broodmother wins. If she is more powerful, she gets a good meal and some more gold to create more eggs (making the trap more enticing) or she dies to a powerful party and her progeny is spread far and wide across the world. Win win!

These are good suggestions, thank you. I ran Dragon Heist and Mad Mage a few years ago and found Skullport pretty bare. My general inclination is to play a module as it’s written because the weird bits are usually interesting and give the campaign character, but I just couldn’t leave that location as empty as it was. Looking through its canon history for inspiration was depressing seeing how much was lost. I’m running both modules again so I’m back at it again, doing research to flesh out Skullport.

I'm currently running a DH/DOTMM Hyprid and about to introduce Skullport. In my campaign, the Xanathar has the Stone of Golorr and has taken it back to his lair. My Players decided to get there via the Undermountain and have spent the last 12 sessions or so dungeon-crawling. They're currently on the Sarguath River on a makeshift raft heading towards Skullport (after a few river encounters of course) Because they took so long to get there, I'm now thinking that the Xanthar has already acquired half a million dragons. So the quest will now become hesitating the Xanathar Lair. So I'm entering the Skullport preparation of my game but was very disappointed by what WOTC gave me to work with. Can someone help me - I tried asking ChatGPT directly, but it was very nervous that I was asking about PII, security, etc. and kept assuring me it is not saving anything, there is no persisted state, etc. How can I get it to 'remember' things. Like, if I work with it to create an NPC today - I want it three weeks from now to maybe incorporate that NPC if it is appropriate to whatever we are working on then. So, I have it create me a guard NPC named Bob and we work out all the details, etc, etc. Then at a later date I am asking it to come up with some ideas on some plot hooks, I want it to possibly throw out a hook or two that would be appropriate with Bob. Is this just a matter of keeping those tabs in the left hand side saved?
@DuncsDungeon10 ай бұрын
The easiest way I have found for chat GPT 3.5 is to cut and paste the information about Bob into the new conversation and tell chat gpt its background information to use similar to the primer documents I talk about in the video. I've heard, but not tested the paid version can remember all past conversations and you can "folderise" them to allow Chat GPT to access specific conversations. You can also have it "forget" conversations so it doesn't refer to them in the future. Every next generation of chat GPT is able to have more input data, but for now this is one of the problems with the old AIs, is their memory is limited.

I gave it this: I run a D&D group and I need some descriptions of fatal blows. Can you describe in detail the barbarian lopping off the head of the troll with their great axe. Give me 300 words. And it gave back this: The barbarian, muscles bulging with primal rage, swung their mighty great axe with a ferocity that echoed through the damp cavern. The troll, a grotesque creature with mottled green skin and regenerating wounds, roared in defiance, its yellow eyes filled with malice. As the great axe descended, its sharp edge gleamed in the dim light, leaving a trail of anticipation in its wake. The barbarian's strike was executed with precision honed through countless battles. The great axe connected with the troll's sinewy neck, slicing through flesh and bone as if it were mere parchment. A spray of thick, noxious blood erupted from the severed arteries, painting the air in a gruesome ballet of crimson. The troll's roar turned into a gurgling, choked sound as its head became a gruesome trophy, rolling across the cavern floor. The great axe, now slick with the troll's lifeblood, sang with a victorious hum as the barbarian, bathed in the gore of their conquest, let out a primal howl that echoed through the cavernous chamber. The decapitated troll twitched briefly, its monstrous body collapsing with a thunderous thud. The cavern fell silent, save for the barbarian's heavy breathing and the dripping of blood from the great axe. The scene was one of triumph and savagery, the air thick with the metallic scent of victory. The barbarian, standing amidst the carnage, surveyed their handiwork with a mixture of satisfaction and feral intensity. The severed troll head served as a gruesome testament to the barbarian's prowess, a warning to any who dared to oppose the indomitable might of the raging warrior. The party, witnessing the brutal demise of the troll, felt a surge of adrenaline and camaraderie, knowing that the barbarian's prowess had once again turned the tide in their favor.

Like movies, some terrible examples gain cult status due to just how bad they are, or the nostalgia associated with them. There were little to no other options or ideas around when this module was released, so for its time it was iconic and the nostalgia is strong. But using today's standard, your critique holds weight, but to dismiss all the ideas in this module because the overall execution falls short is short sighted.

I mashed up this one with the Judge's Guild Trial by Fire. I used the Mushroom Garden with a variety of useful, neutral and dangerous mushrooms including shriekers and had a non player character deeper in the dungeon who had been making a study of them and has some information for the characters, some of it written down. I used the water/drowning trap, the dead adventurers at the entrance with a nasty already sprung Indiana Jones boulder trap that had crushed them to paste, the identical rooms crystalline teleport trap (was that from Unknown or trial by fire?) , and the dropping wall that splits the party. I avoided the multiple multi-coloured pools room, but I should add the laughing gas trap. Oh and I have a couple competitive parties, one of them aggressive inverse party nasties and one group of beneficent Kobold Archeologists potentially with a ranger kobold leader with a whip and a battered hat. I like the bespoke rumours too. I have a problem with adding too much detail in rooms and there is a problem in this module which has a lot of ordinary equipment in rooms.

There are a lot of targeted AIs out there right now trying to get your support and the going rate seems to be $8 per month for some psychological reasons. With economies of scale, this would be reasonable, but the biggest cost would be the lights, speakers and screens needed to unlock the AIs full potential. Some people already have the technology already in their gaming room, but I could see the 8 digital screen DM screen being a bit pricey as a kickstarter unless one of the big boys took it on. Maybe Alexa in a couple of years may come with all the needed software programming and accesses your homes smart devices to make this idea a reality.
