Near the end of Richard Burton's life, when he was engaged to be married to Sally Ann Hay and despite rumours he was still sending her love letters, the truth is he'd gone right off Elizabeth Taylor. Not having seen her for some time they met up in early 1983 to rehearse for _Private Lives:_ *_"E's [Elizabeth Taylor's] face OK but figure splop! Also drinking. Also has not yet read the play! That's my girl! Became very sentimental. ‘Please don't marry Sally for my sake for a long time’ ‘I have no dates.’ She is very lonely... Feel sorry for her. A mass of mess. Poor thing. ‘I have no dates’ means ‘nobody wants me for myself.’ True too!_* *_"ET [Elizabeth Taylor] only 15 minutes late but then spent 15 minutes more doing her eyebrows. She stinks of garlic - who has garlic for breakfast? She is also on something or other because there are lines here and there which she can't say at all... She is also terribly low in energy. Tells me twice an hour how lonely she is._* *_"...ET impossibly sloshed all day long."_* RICHARD BURTON _Diary; March.1983_ pub.2012

Ironically, the president wants to create a government program where the private sector already has an “excellent “ solution. Says a lot.

My 84 year old dad needs to have a thyroid nodule biopsy in August. He's a little squeamish and sort of a hypochondriac. I'm going to remind him of Aunt Voula's story while we are in the waiting room to lighten the mood.

Everyone knows a Martha in real life. Magnificent work, Oscar very deserved for Ms Taylor. Those who say she couldn’t act are crazy. Take a look at her career you fool, it’s WELL established.

There aren’t nearly enough Canadians to justify a Butterball Hotline. These are the times when being America’s neighbor really pays off. 🇺🇸 🍻 🇨🇦 (Canada and the US share the same country code, so a 1-800 number is toll-free for Canadians, too)

Let's face it, Taylor made some real stinkers in her career, but this film really showed what a spectacular actress she could be with the right material, director and co-star. And, the mercurial nature of her real-life relationship with Burton gave her that much more to work with and elevated her performance even further. It's great that this movie got the recognition it deserved right from the outset and that Taylor was justifiably awarded her second Oscar.

My favorite line in this scene has to be: Is there a chance I might kill my dinner guests? Im not saying that's a deal breaker.
