My girlfriend pulled over just south of Sunset Grille to coo over a mama duck and her brood swimming in the sound. A local cop pulled up beside her to tell her to move along. She looked at him and said "Who do you think you are, the Duck Police?"- then looked at his door, starts laughing hysterically and says, "oh wait".... He just shook his head and drove off.

Thanks for the kind comment, and of course for watching some of these vids. Hard to believe that it's already been a year. Happy to announce that Dave continues to do well, although he had a serious motorcycle accident last Sept. He has now fully recovered, and back to riding regularly. And yes, the idea of being around thousands of people from all over the country this year in Sturgis would certainly make some of us pause in a decision to attend. Hoping next year won't have that hanging over it. Thanks again for watching, and hope all of your rides are safe ones!

When I go to Sturgis I take the Interstate all the way to just north of Cheyenne, WY, then get off on Highway 85. Why? Yes, the Interstate is boring with nothing interesting to see, but around here so are the back roads. There aren't any cool places along the two-laners to check out and no decent places to buy food or fuel. BORING! And quite frankly, so lightly traveled that it is also dangerous.
@daveparker19104 жыл бұрын
Agreed - we were surprised during the height of the travel season how lightly traveled the non-interstate roads were. In fact, we went across the entire state of KS and, because of the way we went, only saw one bike the entire state. Crazy. I can't remember what roads we took through SE WY, but you're right, it was more than light. If I had to do this series again (had to shoot vids during the day and edit each night), I would have spent a little more time reviewing the roads and routes a little more, so as to offer up more trip planning info. Hopefully there's a next ride for all of us. Regardless, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Safe rides.

@@ProfessionalMonkey - it's funny, watching that video a year later, maybe @xdude2x was right. Dave and I were both pissed off at the time, but in retrospect, given what Dave was going through (watch the last episode), we should've just been fulfilled to be out there riding on the SD plain regardless of a phone, a lip on the highway or other whatever other bikers chose to do. I'm sure we'd both give a lot just to be back in that spot picking up pieces of Samsung.

Hey Bo. I'll be honest, I hated riding across that bridge. The cross wind was blowing about 15, and were on the grated lane for most of it. Not being a fan of heights also contributed to the white knuckling. But, I'm sure the second time across would hopefully tilt toward a little more fun and a little less pucker factor. Uneven pavement and those bridge gaps are waaaaay too common. I popped a tire on a bridge gap going to Sturgis on i90 in 2016. Last year, in Kansas, I hit one so hard my tourpak sheared all 4 bolts and broke off (thankfully no passenger).

Sorry to hear that. That makes for a crappy day. I was surprised to find out that here in VA, and I'm assuming it's about the same nationwide, that the allowance for those seams and gaps is 4", which is the minimal clearance for cars. 4"! Geez - that's like running in to a curb.

Thanks for watching, and for the comment. The other Dave and I were talking about the whole stopping for other bikers thing. What we recollected is that when we've stopped before, especially on the interstate, you have to start slowing down really early in the process. So, at least on the interstate, you're hitting the brakes way before you'd ever see a handkerchief, or any other marker. Regardless, that signal would work well on a smaller road. When you've gotta be somewhere at a certain time, it's never fun to stop. But, I've never regretted it, and I'm sure CL Morris didn't either. He was badass! Smokin' a cig and just rollin' down I-90. Thanks again for watching.
