Unfortunately, I do not. It’s a new standard and unfortunately the entire market (Cuban and Non-Cuban) may be forever impacted. The prices for premium tobacco outside of Cuba seems to have taken an uptick, especially when you look at brands such as Padron, Arturo Fuente, who are heralded as the best outside of Cuba, and even lesser quality (in my opinion, anyway) and those with far less heritage, such as Rocky Patel, have cigars priced advice $25 per cigar. It’s almost like when the last cigar “boom” of the mid ninety’s hit and unknown manufacturers started charging $10-$20 for a cigar that were brand new to the market just because they stole rollers from prestigious factories by paying them $1 and $2 more per hour to roll their cigars using subpar overstock tobacco just because they could. It’s almost like every new cigar is now $20 and up so it’s even more important to know what you like and not be seduced by the price being an indicator of a quality product. You now pay more because of the fancy band and humidor esque box they come in than for what’s inside.

Thanks very much! I used to go to Cuban Lou’s and Cigar Terminal and have always had great success. Cuban Lou’s ships for free but their inventory is always really low on most major brands and large sized cigars. I haven’t ordered since the pricing increase because it’s just not worth it unfortunately. I have picked up stuff when I travel though.

I’m sorry for the long delay in responding to this. You’re right, I need a follow up tour. I have a lot of the same stuff and haven’t added many Havana’s since the prices changed to the Asian market value. I’ve added another box of Opus X and finally opened the other box I picked up in 2019. I have only added and smoked a handful of boxes (Foundation Melenik and Olmec and a couple of boxes of Feral Flying Pig from Liga Privada and a ton of singles here and there. But I’ll post one soon!

It depends on their box date and when I receive them. This box was relatively “green” so I sat on them for about a year. Typically six months of f they’ve only been boxed for a few months or so. I just got a box of Robusto that were boxed almost 2 years ago so they could be smoked immediately if desired.

Great question. Technically it is illegal. There was a period of time under the Obama administration where the US relaxed trade restrictions with Cuba for common travel and small dollar amounts. That allowed for import of up to 100 cigars per traveler regardless of where they imported from (Cuba directly, or any international destination that sold Cuban tobacco). However the Trump administration removed that capability so it is technically illegal to import any Cuban goods regardless of dollar amount. The gray area is that this isn’t a strictly enforced law. Customs is more concerned about more significant forms of contraband and smuggling. Therefore you’re more than likely to get by without any concern unless you are traveling for an extended period of time and elect to not claim any goods for import. My suggestion is to always declare “something” even if just small trinkets, a bottle of alcohol, or something that is relatively known to be a “great deal” in the country being visited that most travelers often seek to bring back. Doing so presents more openness to a customs agent when performing a quick Q/A screening and in most cases you’ll pass right through. Worst case, they are stringent and perform a search and your cigars are confiscated. However depending on the quantity that may not even happen. Another option is to ask the proprietor if they ship to the US. Some may do so and will guarantee the shipment. Thus if they get seized the vendor will simply resend them at no additional cost.

The price hikes have been unfortunate but the lesser known brands remain relatively the same cost and are just as good as they’ve always been.

I have been buying Cubans for many years from several sellers. I heard about the 'price increase' that everyone seems to be upset about- but when did this occur? I might be living under a rock but haven;t noticed a huge price increase...

@@DESCENDINGDR For the most part, Cohiba tripled or quadrupled in prices. If they're available at all. In 2022 I bought a box of Robusto's for $400 (+/- a few bucks) and just a couple of months ago they were $1,600. If you're buying from online retailers, make sure they're legit because I don't know any of the ones I shop with and rely on that haven't adjusted the pricing. Of course cigarillos are unchanged - anything in a 48 and above ring gauge has seen huge increases (popular brands anyway).

Cohiba Robustos are $563 USD delivered in the USA from my favorite online seller. That's today's price! So, why there is such a commotion about Cuban prices is still baffling to me...

None of the cigars I have are flavored. All 100% natural tobacco. Cigars can impart their inherent tobacco flavor (otherwise considered “marrying” if the strength and shade of the tobacco is different from one another and those cigars are in contact for an extended period of time. However that isn’t the case as all of these cigars are stored among their same blends and wrapper tobacco.

No, it depends on the country where they’re imported and sold. UK, Switzerland and Canada are three in which their government mandates health stickers be affixed upon import and prior to sale. Tabacuba tax labels are affixed before the larger barcoded and holographic authenticity guarantee seal. Sometimes they’re visible just below that seal. You can barely make out the raised lower portion of the seal in this video. The bottom of the box is burned in and the boxing date is stamped in ink. I’ve purchased all over the world for nearly 30 years and can assure you I do not but counterfeits.

I used to get some cigars and in Montreal when I traveled for business. Pricing in Canada is always higher because of taxes but a small splurge when there is always worth it. Pricing on Cuban cigars as a whole I’ve skyrocketed because the Cuban economy is so poor and the government is gouging figuring people will continue to pay. They were less than six months from boxing when I got them. It’s been about a year now and I usually like to let them mature a bit more. They’re ready to smoke as soon as they arrive. I just like to give ‘em some more time to marry completely. I’ve since sold that box to a friend. Should have kept them since they cost about 4x more now than what I paid If you can even find them.
