He sounds so much like Charlie Christian in this clip! You can really tell how much Wes admired and looked up to Charlie’s playing. It’s such a shame that Charlie passed away so young, because I would have given anything to hear him and Wes play together. Rest in Peace to both of those gigantic legends. ❤

That had such an incredible beat and everyone was just sitting around watching, no on dancing. Compare to nowadays where everyone dances like a maniac to the most mediocre 'hip hop".

i feel the processed sound hides the brilliance of his lines though. Wish he'd keep the clean sound. Otherwise, brilliant.

What's the titlle of the tune?
@elkston
@elkston 8 ай бұрын
Slightly pedantic note -- the 3rd tune is only "Steps", not "Steps-What Was". They are actually 2 different tunes and in Chick's "Now He Sings Now He Sobs" (w/Haynes as well), as Steps ends, they smoothly transition into "What Was". So this is why it was put down as a single tune on that album. I was a bit dissapointed because I have never heard Chick play "What Was" again since that album. It is a beautiful, dark, evocatvie tune and in some ways hints towards his later more well known "La Fiesta". I get the feeling "What Was" may have been a sketch that eventually becaome "La Fiesta" -- but only some of its melody hints at that. The rest is nothing like it and is much more dark and mysterious. Joanne Brackeen does a version of "What Was", in her trio album "New True Illusion".
