borax you want a much lower power and you dont want to wipe it and sand it, it should be finished when it comes off the laser and just need a clear coat.

How deep would you say the engraving is? Barely any, or definitely noticeable? Have you try doing multiple passes? I've been etching metal with my diode laser but been thinking about upgrading to the IR module, I'm just worried that it won't make much of a difference when I work with golf clubs. I understand that fiber would be the way to go, but I believe this would work while I save some money haha.

Not deep but you can feel it with your fingernail. I didn't try doing multiple passes. I engraved on vise grips, knives, etc. If I was going to do very many - I would get a fiber for sure

The chatter is deafening and the bit stick out is WAY to far.
@Makers_Hangout
@Makers_Hangout 4 ай бұрын
If you look closely, the bit is chucked up to the cutters - cannot insert any further. The bit is really long with the cutters but I tried it because I wanted the depth to mill thicker woods. Also if you notice - the whole purpose was to test the limits and very hard woods. So yeah I ran it up to it chattering to test the performance. So this video wasn't about best practices but testing the bit itself. Thanks for watching

How thick a piece of solid hardwood can be cut with 100 watt CO2 laser? Thanks!
@Makers_Hangout
@Makers_Hangout Жыл бұрын
IT will greatly depend on the wood in my experience. Cedar and cherry cut really nice and engrave nice for me. About the thickest I have ever tried to cut is 1/4 inch in a single pass on my 80W.

Hey Tim. Great questions - 80 Co2 Omtech laser. Power 60% Soeed 20mm/sec, I recently ran some new ramp tests and playing with my focus I can likely reduce power and increase speed by 20-30%
