Nice video on SWR. Is there somewhere I can learn more about the other tabs like Phase, RL & Smith??
@ClimbingColorado23 күн бұрын
Unfortunately, I've never learned what the other chart information means either. There are sites and videos online that go over Smith Charts. I don't think I've see anything for Phase or RL charts though.

It would be interesting to see each antenna ran through WSPR or pskreporter to see how they propagate. You would have to run them within the same time period, maybe a 30 minute window, to get a good comparison. It stands to reason, more whip and less coil is better.

That's a great idea! I own a Zach Tech WSPR transmitter. I'll see about doing a video on that soon. Thanks for the feedback!

What I like to do is have the nanovna in a separate MOLLE pouch with the analyzer. I instead to pack a resonant antenna such as the chameleon LEFS.

I really like EFHW antennas too. They're small, light, and simple. If you're ever looking for a backup to your Chameleon LEFS, check out the KM4ACK EFHW kit.

The bag is cool, but seeing the commo equipment got me to subscribe!!!

Yea, the Tasmanian Tiger stuff is really nice. It's a shame they don't make bags geared toward radios. Thanks for the comment!

very nice ! tidy and efficient, like the weather proof books as well.

OK, so I assume the mic gain on the rig has been set low to take into account the compressor (as otherwise it gets overdriven). In which case you are comparing compressor against no compressor with a rig that is not set up optimally. By far the biggest improvement is achieved by setting USB and LSB TX carrier insertion points, mic gain and mic switch to be optimised for your voice, and using the mic correctly. M3KXZ

The mic gain is set to whatever the factory default is. The BX-184 doesn't have a switch on the back like the OEM mic. Since you can both see and hear the transmitted audio on a separate radio (SDR), I assume the mic gain is optimal enough? I've honestly spent more time fooling with my IC-7300 and IC-705 as it relates to audio and compression settings. I fell in love with the waterfall display and haven't used my FT-818 much in the last several years.

Very nice demonstration. I just picked up the SOTABeams Speech Compressor last week. I have yet to try it out on a new (to me) FT-857D I just picked up. Good job.

what are you using that anker usb hub for, does filter out usb controller noise from leakingto the sdr?
@ClimbingColorado7 ай бұрын
The laptop I'm using in this video only has USB C connections. The USB hub allows me to connect USB A devices. Also, I only have two USB C ports and three connections (power, mouse, and SDR) so the hub made sense for this arrangement.

For the RigExpert antenna analyzer, I'm using a black 15"x15". For the IC-705, I'm using a gray 19"x19".

Thanks for sharing this excellent video. Later this week I’ll be receiving my Rig Expert and now learning how to use it with the software . Appreciate you taking the time to explain to us. 73 Steve AA4SH

I'm glad you liked the video! The RigExpert analyzers and software are transformational. Not only are they useful for antenna setup I also feel like I understand the science better because I can visualize the relationship between the antenna and the graphs.

Antscope2 latest version keeps crashing. Prior version stalls or disconnects even on USB with Stick Pro. App requires multiple taps to re-connect via bluetooth.. it should do it automatically when you go do a scan, or at least be just one click. Also there has gotta be a way to save markers or set them by entering a frequency.

I'm running v 1.3.0 on three separate systems and haven't had any issues connecting my AA-35 Zoom via USB. I don't have any experience with trying to connect my AA-35 Zoom via Bluetooth, although it's supposed to be able to do that. Have you tried different USB cables? The preferred cables have chokes at either end of the USB cable.

Useless actually, the BT connection keeps dropping for me on my RigExpert Stick 230 with in 5 - 10 seconds.

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your Bluetooth connection. My AA-35 Zoom doesn't have that feature so I can't speak to the Bluetooth reliability. Does it work well when plugged into your computer?

Thanks for your video. I've had my AA-54 for years, but didn't know I could use it with the PC. I emailed RigExpert, and one of there Technical Support Engineers replied with the link to this video. They're just isn't any help on the web to learn how to use this software. I'm not getting it, I'm an old dog trying to learn how to do it. 73
