What dental school are you in ?
@chickenchalupa9 ай бұрын
hey daniel! i'm a Canadian student that applied to NYU for dental school. I was wondering if you could talk about your experience so far, how your faculty is, and options after graduation to study in the USA or return to Canada, and what study strategies worked for you (using Anki, taking lecture notes, etc)?

Hi Daniel how do you fund your tuition for NYU I’m also considering a U.S. schools for dentistry but It’s so expensive
@danielmah6786 Жыл бұрын
Hello Grace! I felt the same way, but I trust it will be worth it in the end! I fund mine with a government student loan/grant, a private bank loan, and with the help of my parents, who I’m ever grateful for. Hope this helped!

Hi Daniel! I’m a high school senior committed to UDM this year! Right now I’m going through housing application and they asked me which of three meal options I will use. So I was wondering if you could share your experience and thoughts on UDM’s meal quality. And if that’s okay, which of the three meal options you chose when you were attending UDM. Thank you very much!
@danielmah6786 Жыл бұрын
Hi Jaeheon, so sorry for getting back to you so late! In my first year, I chose the one with the most meal plans/least flex dollars, but I ended up with extra at the end of the year. For my third year, I moved to the middle option for a bit more flex and the perfect number of meal plans. If you are living in the dorms, I think this is the one you should choose.

Wow you are so inspirational Daniel! NYU Dental is my dream school, and I am currently a freshman in undergrad. Do you have any advice on extracurriculars, such as research, volunteering, and shadowing? My goal is to be like you one day, but the sciences are hard especially when the professors go into little detail about the material we are learning. Do you have any tips on studying ahead over the summer and self studying to master the content?
@danielmah6786 Жыл бұрын
Hi Josh, I only just realized I hadn’t responded! With regards to extracurriculars, get involved in something that you’re passionate in, healthcare related. It doesn’t matter too much whether it’s related to dentistry. It’s more about reflecting on the experience; what did you learn from it and how did it impact your character? Shadowing is a given, and research is not required but it is appreciated. Regarding sciences, definitely self study. Find a framework to go off that is representative of what you will be learning (eg. textbook that sunbaes recommended), and when you’re studying it and don’t fully understand, refer to other resources like pubmed or sciencedirect. Studying in the summer is a good idea! If you have more specific questions, please ask me here or better, my instagram @darthmah!

Is it true that if you are an international student and you are in the 7 year dental program, you are not guaranteed to go into UDM dental after finishing 3 years of undergraduate even if you have all of the academic requirements done?
@JaeheonBang Жыл бұрын
To clarify the question a bit more, my understanding about the 7 year dental program is that if you keep up with the university's standards during 3 years of undergraduate, a seat of UDM dental school is guaranteed for you. Is this the same for international students as well?
@danielmah6786 Жыл бұрын
@@JaeheonBang Hi Jaeheon, thank you for taking the time to comment! That’s correct: a spot is not guaranteed. Assuming you fulfill all the requirements, all you are guaranteed is an interview. Therefore, the only reason to go to UDM is for 3 year undergrad, a few dental courses which will prepare you for dental school, and how easy it is to get a scholarship.

Hii im looking to apply to the same nyu dds program as an international student, im in junior year of high school but still haven't applied. Can you let me know all the requirements, some advice, or when you think is the best time to apply?
@LalaLala-jw8gd2 жыл бұрын
also did u complete any tests before applying? How long is the dds program? is it considered a bachelors degree?
@danielmah67862 жыл бұрын
Hi @Lala Lala, you would be in a different situation since you are applying from high school. You would have to apply to NYU's 7-year dent program (3 yrs undergrad + 4 yrs dental school). Since I applied straight from undergrad, I have 4 yrs of dent school, which ends with a DDS degree (doctor of dental surgery, not a bachelor's).
@danielmah67862 жыл бұрын
@@LalaLala-jw8gd To clarify, the DDS degree is a graduate level degree, unlike a bachelor's which is undergraduate typically. I had to take the Dental Admissions Test (dat) before applying. This is usually done in the summer after third year of undergrad, but since I only had a 3 yr undergrad I took it in the summer after my second yr. I'm not too knowledgeable about NYU's 7-yr program, but plz start your research from there. Hope this helps!
@danielmah67862 жыл бұрын
@@LalaLala-jw8gd Also, since you will be applying from high school, just make sure to have a good sat/act score, good gpa (AP courses help with this), and good (consistent) extracurriculars. Be able to explain everything in your application. I think most ppl in high school apply in the summer or fall of their senior year (it's been so long I can't recall exactly so don't quote me on it). Should be good to go otherwise!
