When I bought the game decades ago, I was totally happy with it. I already loved the original on C64 and Atari ST, and for me It was like a dream coming true! However, if I remember correct it was also a bit buggy and the gameplay could maybe have been better here or there. A few years ago I tried it again and was not that happy about it anymore. However, If I remember correct, there is a Demo of this game available for download. So I would suggest first to try the demo before buying the game.

@@worldofretrogaming2248 Thank you for the answer : ) I grew up with a later generation of strategy games (Stronghold, Age of Empires, Empire Earth...), so I am discovering this game only now, in a little personal research: in the desire to rediscover the origins of the genre, I think that games like DOTC or Centurion: Defender of Rome are unmissable milestones. Now I'm practicing first of all with the original Amiga version: considering the time of release (1986), it is amazing in terms of graphics, but the gameplay is rough in the skirmish and jousting modes: I just click the mouse like a madman, but the result is very random, sometimes I manage to win, much more often I lose, but I never know why. Probably the original developers did not have time to take care of these aspects and were forced to publish the game too early (same old story that damages many games). As you surely know, the various portings (for example Atari ST, from what I read) had the opportunity to improve those aspects of the gameplay but lost a lot in graphics. So, it seems to me that if we want to play a version that has good gameplay and at the same time attractive graphics, we should opt for one of these versions: - Defender of the Crown 2 (1993) - Defender of the Crown: Digitally Remastered Collector's Edition (2002) Robin Hood Defender Of The Crown (2003) - Defender of the Crown: Heroes Live Forever (2007) At least, these are the ones I found (I would be happy to discover more). All these versions are easily found in complete format, adapted for modern Windows systems, on sites like myabandonware and the like. But the doubt remains about the quality of this 2007 remake, which has received mixed reviews. Anyway, I hope to try it, sooner or later 😊

I don´t know, it´s the choice from the creator I guess. 3 balls is standart for most tables, but 5 balls is also common sometimes.

Please note that this is not the Original Version. It´s the HD Version with online Leaderboard, new OST and other improvements/extras.
