@virginiaridermagazine6 күн бұрын
It's been a few years aside from a near miss on our trip to TX last year. We've become quite spoiled and content with the open and empty roads here. Speaking of Floyd, I started a book awhile back called Harmonic Highways by Michael Abraham, which delves into The Crooked Road and Virginia's Heritage Music Trail, and Floyd in particular, on his Honda CBX. It's very interesting and well written. I'd have finished it by now, but it cuts into riding time.😂 Thanks for watching!

I will share that the worst tire you can run on the bike are Shanko's! They are great in dry conditions but horrible on wet roads. Just my humble opinion. Ride safe!

I have had a ‘77 Gl1000 with a windjammer and now a 2015 GL1800 anniversary edition. I’d love to get a 2024 GW but I’m 77 yrs old and living on my savings. I don’t do a lot of long days but I do ride as often as every day and for all my daily moving around. I’ve put as much as $250 worth of groceries in my scoot. I’ve had 2 ST1300s that I really liked including one hot red 2009. I put 140k on a 2003 and 84k on the 2009. At 72, the ST got so top heavy I had to move to a new 2015 that now has 89k after eight years. Wonderful bike, great cornering clearance and luggage capacity. Quiet as a mouse. The only trouble I’ve had is the luggage doesn’t lock any longer.

I rented a 2007 Silver GL 1800 Goldwing at Eagle Ryder rentals in Richmond VA back in 07 for one day rode over 500 miles to Seneca rock WV and back had a blast. Love the bike was thinking about getting one but got a great deal on a 07 Yamaha venture Been happy with that so far still might get that Goldwing one day ! Wish Eagle rider was still here cause you could rent all kinds of different bikes, which was a great deal if you were looking to buy a particular motorcycle could truly get a feel if you really wanted to own it or not

The dealerships I worked for would let our customers take a used bike out for a day ride. Maybe there's one near you. If you're considering one, now is the time to buy. There are more bikes on the market than riders looking for one. You might even get lucky and find one with some upgrades like we did.

So I'm watching your video because I almost bought a wing, and sometimes wish I did. I bought a Yamaha Super Tenere because my buddy with a wing dropped his on a slippery west Texas shell driveway and tore the hell out of him and the bike, where as I just rode it up. My air filter is under the tank too; very annoying. I just about have to rip the bike apart to do any serious maintenance. The first time I used the traction control was when I was riding the bike up a grassy slope and felt the rear tire begin to slide out from under me. Then all of a sudden the bike stood up and walked itself up the slope. I've had a couple of other times when it prevented me from going down of slippery road crud on asphalt intersections. I'm still thinking about getting a wing for my gal pal. The Ten is not such a great two up bike. It'll do it, just not super comfy for her. It's the first bike I've every owned with fly by wire. I'm getting to that age where adventure is not so much adventurous anymore.

The 2018 and newer models have all the bells and whistles, including TC. Rose and I rode one for a day and found it quite comfortable. I'm not sure what warranty programs Honda has in place for its used bikes, but if you get one from a dealer, they might even cover it. Either way, I'd test ride one if you haven't already done so. Your Pillion will find hopping on and off one much easier. Thanks for watching!😃

I'm a 70 year old rider. I've been riding for 56 years. I have ridden in just about every condition. I have worn layers and never been cold or wet, except one time in a rain storm so heavy that it ran off the back of my helmet into my rainsuit and all the way down my body to fill up my boots. I had a front tire wave about 4 feet high and I was going about 20mph on a full dress Suzuki GS850G. It was summer, so I didn't get cold, just wet. I enjoyed your ride and caught myself turning my head for the curves. I ride a Yamaha Super Tenere. Bought it for exploring back country dirt roads but admit it turns up the pavement pretty good too. P.S. The only time I got up to Virginia, I got caught in snow and after about an hour of that turned around.

I remember the first winter that came as a motorcycle owner. I called my dealer and asked him how do I winterize my bike. He laughed and said you don't, you ride it. It doesn't get as cold in Hampton Roads as you in the mountains but I did wisely invest in cold weather gear and ride all year long.
@virginiaridermagazine26 күн бұрын
It often gets to the point in many of us, like a drug: for which there is no cure, or need for one. And not having to park the bike or worry about being cold, is truly a wonderful thing for addicts like us.😆
@4940markhutchins27 күн бұрын
Doing the same thing here in Utah with my Goldwing DCT Tour. No major snowstorms yet, so most mountain roads are still open. I don’t want to stop riding just because of a little cold. Like you say, heated gear make this possible. I also use good layering and heated grips and seat on the bike.

How well does that foot warmer work on your Goldwing ? I know some models offered that feature a trap door that directed hot air off the manifold
@virginiaridermagazine26 күн бұрын
That's a good question. It must to some degree since my feet don't get cold very often, but I can't actually feel the heat on them. The only times they have gotten cold is when I don't wear an extra pair of socks and it's in the 20s on longer rides.
@altec1926 күн бұрын
I know not all models had that feature in 07. I think there’s a cable operated lever to open and close the vent to allow the heat to direct to your feet. Does your bike have that feature?
@virginiaridermagazine26 күн бұрын
@@altec19 It does. There are also vents on the dash by the knees, that you can open and close, that throw heat out. With the heated grips and seat, you almost don't need heated gear when it dips below 50.

The air filter isn’t under the gas tank your butt sits directly above the gas tank on a 2001-2017 GW In between the key switch and the glove box (airbag on some models) straight down from there is the air filter on the top of the engine. Remove your seat and beneath your battery is the gas tank hope this helps

Technically correct. Please forgive me. I was referring to the component between my knees pretending to be a gas tank, which has to come off in order to get to the air filter.
