The absolute magic you get out of a beeper is nothing short of jaw dropping. Incredible stuff. 😲

One bit music is all well and good, but what can you do with just one bit and one channel???
@saltedmutton7269Ай бұрын
this *is* one channel! it just changes really quick so it sounds like multiple instruments - a bit like how if you flash two colours fast enough it looks like a mix between the two
@Atmatan_KabbaherАй бұрын
@@saltedmutton7269 No, it's three channels. Because that's literally just how the ZX spectrum works. It is functionally impossible to get this level of sound mix from a single channel on the spectrum, at a literal hardware level.

Great work, well done! Incidentally, is there any chance of doing a follow up to your 'ON and OFF - 1bit ZX Beeper album'? I absolutely love that! especially on my original 48k Spectrum physical hardware :)

Why is the palette not monochrome?

Good point. No idea, I didn’t do the art. It was made by the talented Lobo. Maybe the devs wanted a muted splash of colour

@@JasperTedVidalTaleAlthough the Cabinet of Dr Caligari was of course a monochrome film, there is a version which uses colour filters to indicate changes in mood as the film progresses. If you haven't seen it by the way, you should because it's a masterpiece.

Worst music I’ve ever heard come from a beep speaker. Edit: my dumbass forgot I had youtube set to play videos back at 0.25x speed. The music is good.

But this song is based around the glitchy audio effects (Hence the name of the song "Glitch"). So yeah this song has a nice inconsistent different take on pc speaker music

How is everything not a square? Isn't the zx beeper 1 bit?
@ILikeCornYouKnowАй бұрын
You can vary the pulse widths because the beeper is controlled by the CPU, not a timer like on the IBM PC's beeper. Also, a filter is applied by the ZX spectrum hardware
