The Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Sunday attack by Justice Janak de Silva explains with evidence how Muslim community radicalisation led to the Easter Sunday attack. No one should have any doubts that Easter Sunday attack in Sri Lanka was conducted by Muslim religious fanatics for a number of reasons. I will highlight three reasons. First, Muslim religious fanatics has been attacking churches and hotels worldwide. The evidence is overwhelming and it is exceptionally well documented including in the two articles below. Radical and violent ideologies such as Salafi Wahhabism and Jamaat-e-Islami should be addressed by Muslim scholars and leaders. Muslim leadership working unilaterally and with government should have never permitted foreign ideologies to take root. It is not too late for them to proscribe Salafi Wahhabi and Jamaat-e-Islami, if they genuinely desire peace. Third, Sri Lankan politicians including government will not act against Muslim exclusivism and extremism as politicians want the Muslim vote. Muslim leadership and elite should act. Government will act only when radicalization peaks and enters the violence and terrorism phase. Finally, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under MBS has acted decisively against religious fanatics. In “Sri Lanka’s Easter Sunday Massacre - Lessons for the International Community”, I have written extensively praising the Saudi model where violent and radical clerics are counselled and rehabilitated. Sri Lankan Muslims who want to stop the next attack should emulate the Saudi model of rehabilitation. Sri Lankan Muslim politicians and religious leaders should make this their highest priority. Otherwise, Muslim religious exclusivism and extremism will make Sri Lanka suffer from another attack.
