It's called a stepout and it's a way to start the note together and do mock drill while in place

When I was in high school, my marching band director showed this video to us. That was over 10 years ago, and I still watch this video when I need to gather my thoughts.

The fact that they can have that kind of tone playing at such a loud volume on such high notes never ceases to amaze me

I saw Carolina Crown in 2019, from the top of the first deck of Infocision Stadium, and it felt like a cannonball to the chest. I couldn't even imagine being front and center to this. I probably would have died.

I can imagine the setting. Its late June hot as hell and they just rode 400 miles to get there that day for the show. After eating PB&J again they suited up as the sun set to prepare for another night of greatness. These kids are tired, hot and ready to give their souls to the show and audience. The conductor who works for peanuts does this because he loves it and would not want to be anywhere else than in front of this horn line. You can tell they give him everything they have as they do every night. What a corp, what a horn line. Its this kind of excitement that makes me want to go to a DCI show.

@@FrankleeMiDeer I still come back and listen to this on occasion. Nothing stirs the emotions in me the same way as this horn line. The energy, passion and pure musical ability. I would love someday to stand in the circle and listen to them warm up. That would be my "make a wish" dream.

Now if DCI corps would have moments in their shows like this throughout, as it used to be, the activity would be truly exciting again. Even through the computer this gives me chills. Nothing I have seen live in a long time has done as much, but even the weaker corps years ago could do this.

I would have to disagree with you. If every corp had this awesome crown sound then DCI wouldn't be what it is. DCI is as incredible as it is because every corp has there unique sound. Crown sounds different from Cavies that sounds different from The Devils, which sounds different from the Cadets, which is different from Phantom. I agree having multiple corps like this would be invigorating but would take away from DCI as a whole in my opinon
