amazing and insightful!

I met Maxine when I was 37 and she was 83. She gave an inspirational talk at the Teachers & Writers Collaborative in Union Square. I was so enchanted by her! Then I started reading her book, "Releasing the Imagination," and re-read it so many times the book literally fell apart! In my own work as an English professor, I began building on her brilliant notion of aesthetic pedagogy. I love the unique way she brought together the arts with education, social justice, and community. I began attending her vaunted Sunday Salon, held in her Manhattan apt., and Maxine became my friend and mentor. Without her influence, it's doubtful I could have changed the lives of thousands of students, empowering them with agency, critical thinking, and a love for the arts. Now I talk about her ideas on a nonprofit TV show my wife and I co-produce, "Public Voice Salon," nominated for the Yidan Prize--the equivalent of a Noble Prize in Education. Why don't they talk about Maxine's ideas on the big TV shows like CNN or MSNBC? Why do we have legal and political analysts, but no culture or education analysts? Just asking. I think part of the reason American democracy is in the crisis that it's in now, is because our mainstream media and politicians seem to have no clue (or curiosity) about the best ideas in education. This must change. Maxine Greene was far more interesting, and important, than the vapid celebrities our media gives so much attention to. Just watch this movie if you don't believe me.
