Do everyone a favor please and get rid of the buzzing sound when you speed up the video - it adds nothong but annoyance.

You know they don’t really measure slope in degrees, they really measure it in percentages, rise over run. So your 25°is over 50% which is way too steep. You’re looking for single digits inside 10%. I shoot for 5% although I am riding my trails on a bike. On your trail I would be pushing my bike. I so for every 250 feet of elevation, I will build a mile of trail. Although obviously your 4 x 4 can make it up much steeper terrain erosion still will be a factor. I am curious how many ruts are in this trail now a year later?

That’s good info. It’s really held up quite well, though it’s not used a whole lot. I just regrade it if I need to. I think the forest canopy helps reduce the erosion.

Having leaf litter and other organics on the surface will slow the erosion. But if it got used a lot especially in the wet you would just tear that up. But at least you have access to that part of your property now!

@@trailjockeytj6160 yep access was the goal. There's also a lot of rock in the soil on that part of the trail so that helps too.

Planning on doing a similar project on an existing rutted out road. Is the benefit of starting from the top that gravity helps you as you push material down? I was thinking I would start from the bottom. Partially because it feels less tipsy to come from the bottom up. Do you have a preference/adice? The trail looks great!

I started from the top because that’s the only place I could start from on this particular trail. I do a lot of driveway repair that I will start from the bottom and push material up and to the center. Depending on the slope it may be pretty hard to push up though. Once you’ve loosened up some material it’s much easier going upslope. Good luck with it!

I have a similar slope but going up hill to access the top of my property. I have a Takeuchi SB 240 which is similar machine spec wise with angle blade that I hope to do as well as you did. I am in north Georgia Mountains. Looks like you are in the Appalachian’s as well.

I’ve heard good things about the Takeuchis. I’d like to demo one sometime, maybe when it’s time to replace my KX-040. Yes, I am also in the Appalachians but further north. Thanks for the kind words, good luck with your trail!

Thanks for this follow up. The slope measurer shows how steep that first route was! So what I took away from this was that it is faster and safer to take a longer gentler line for the trail. P.S. your dog has got you trained well ;)

Yes definitely safer and more practical to take an ATV, etc. on.
