Perhaps if Mr. Mcmaster has some time and inclination to spare, he could resing Control and Resistance in its entirety. No hard feeling against Mr. Tecchio's merits, but I think then the end result would be 'more' completed.

Not sure what Paul was thinking with this one, I know a lot of extreme metal fans like low-fi aesthetics to a degree but making the whole album sound like a bleh quality demo tape is just a headscratcher. Oh well guess I'll just stick with the original.

Really disappointing. Stick with the Scott Burns 1993 version. Sure, the guitars are a lot clearer on Refocus so much easier for musicians to transcribe, but they've taken a huge cut in the low-mid frequencies. Feeble

Very good! The instruments are more dynamic. You can hear the differences in the picking, in the drums, in the additional voices, various details that didn't appear in the original edition, which was very compressed, appear now.

Once I found out they were working on the Focus remix/ remaster, I thought, "Finally, it's happening!" I was hoping that it would have a proper and balanced sound like "Traced in Air Remixed," or at least like "Ascension Codes." However, it turned out that they completely ruined it. The new version of Focus is so horrible that I couldn't even finish half of the album. All of the creative aesthetic of the original mix was destroyed, and what we got was a rude and muffled version. If you've never heard this album before, I can only recommend the original 1993 version because the previous remaster from 2004 is also bad

Agreed! Part of what makes Focus so good was it's older production. I absolutely dislike Refocus and refuse to listen to it all...

Production has always been like maybe 10% of the grade for me. I'm sure it matters more than I've given it credit for, but I really like both of Cynic's Foci. Maybe I've just been too poor for good sound equipment lol.

@@The-Autistic-RatWell, you can compare both side by side nowadays. By the way, there are 3 versions in total because Roadrunner re-mastered it in 2004, and unfortunately, that version is also not good. For the real experience, you have to go with the original. If possible, I recommend opening it in an audio editor and adjusting the high end by increasing it slightly and lowering the low end by 1.5-2 dB. That is all you need to get it perfect.
