I was always told to mix in native soil but never fully understood why. Thank you for the clarification!

Quick question about caring for Live Oaks… what months or time of the season is best to trim live Oaks? Bc I’ve found some conflicting information (on KZbin lol) but this also may have been region specific without it stating so in the video and I’m in Central Texas just like you’re

Frank Rinn, the world’s leading mind in Tree Biomechanics, has more data on this than anyone. To say it’s a “bad idea” seems to be an oversimplification. It should always be done in conjunction with pruning. At the end of the day, cables, installed properly, increase Load Carrying Capacity and decrease loads, thus, making trees more structurally sound and less likely to fail. At Arbor Masters, we install dozens of cable/brace systems every year and inspect them on a regular basis. We have several systems that have held for over 30 years on branches with included bark. I don’t think the system is a “bad idea,” I just think people need to know how properly install them! (After all, different diameter branches call for different cables/rods - most systems I see out there don’t abide by the BMPs) Just my two cents as a fellow Certified Arborist/TRAQ.

We constantly install them, I agree with you too, however, if a cable is something thats going to give the customer piece of mind, its well worth the investment for them knowing that if it does fail, at least there is something there holding it.

Live oak is NOT contaminated. Only red oak (like you say in the video) is contaminated.
