While I think a family coaster should’ve been the next new coaster, this coaster will be flashy and smooth and will provide the park with another 48” height requirement coaster along with Nopuko (which is getting brand-new track segments for 2025 to replace those incredibly rough parts). This ride will stand out amongst the other Raptors as it will have GREAT themeing. With this, Matugani, and a smooth Nopuko, Lost Island will have a STACKED top three.
@tomorrowsociety
@tomorrowsociety 6 күн бұрын
That makes sense. I hadn't heard that Nopuko was getting new track; that's great news since those rough spots are just brutal. I loved Matugani, so no arguments there at all. That's also a good point about it having strong theming. The fire realm already looks cool, so this should fit well in that space.

@@tomorrowsociety just heard it a couple days ago. Vekoma did drop those brutal segments during the transportation process following its refurbishment. They are responsible for replacing the track to make up for the damage and for two years they’ve been performing bandage fixes to avoid having to eat the cost of new track.

With all the land area MK, why would they add Cars Land to be adjacent to Frontierland and Liberty Square? It belongs near Tomorrowland. The space that Tomorrowland Speedway sits on is larger than the space where Tom Sawyer's Island and the Rivers of America exists, especially since Cars Land is going to be shared will Villain Land!
@tomorrowsociety

That makes sense. I do wonder if the plan is to ultimately replace the Speedway once the Cars rides open. That would at least seem logical and give Disney a chance to do something big in Tomorrowland. I may be stretching with this one, though.

Yep, that's how the theme park was for us. We went on a Friday night and Saturday morning, and it was nearly deserted especially on Friday. There were maybe a few hundred people in the park at most. The water park looked pretty full when we drove by too. I'm totally with you on the purple coaster! There's a moment after the first drop that's one of the roughest I've ever experienced on a coaster. That was a one-timer for me.

Such an amazing little park. My heart breaks for them. However, probably not the best idea to open a $100 million park in nowheresville and try to compete with a major park in the same region that has a complete foothold on the only moderately sized town in the area. Honestly, had this exact park been built in a more viable location, it would be completely successful. Other than the SLC, that's got to go.

The way you could link to star tours would be pretty simple: create a 'inner-starport-transit' that is nothing more than a large multi-segment bus with 2-wide ride rows which can provide enough capacity while allowing for enough distance from the outer wall to install screens that use simple 3D presentation (they already have their glasses). The 10 minute 'ride' could be a fun, immersive relaxing reprieve from the heat (and a change to sit and relax) while you're moved backstage to the new location where you ride the actual star tours - and disembark on batu. This could be a very nice people eater. You could even make the transit additional storytelling, even a music number or some comedic realtime 3D performer systems.
@tomorrowsociety
@tomorrowsociety Ай бұрын
I like the idea of having a separate attraction that serves the purpose of being entertaining but also is a way to connect Star Tours to Batuu. It's a little bit like the Hogwarts Express at Universal Orlando, though this wouldn't be between parks like that one. Instead, it's just another way to have a Star Wars attraction and connect guests more with both Star Tours and Galaxy's Edge. It would be amazing.
@jsardone
@jsardone Ай бұрын
@@tomorrowsociety precisely - and I'm not sure why it hasn't been explored (other than for obvious cost and logistical reasons). Florida suffers from that high water table but also, the complexity and constraint of backstage area being repurposed. I've always seen these as opportunities to layer operations access in backstage areas where you can start building up to add more utility but that's no small feat. I would think they could also re-purpose the existing star tours area for something else but yeah - interesting podcast! I'm glad there are other people doing this kinda stuff (i really have been a 1 man island and am just about to start making content purely for the heck of it).
@tomorrowsociety

@@jsardone Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the podcast. I wouldn't say that I'm on expert on the logistics on some of the changes discussed on this episode. It's a fun exercise for the most part. Even so, I think there's room for improvement with Galaxy's Edge without breaking the bank.
@jsardone
@jsardone Ай бұрын
I've always thought there were lost immersion opportunities with transport attractions (but I mean, using the 'moving of people' to deepen the immersion). Before they announced and built Galaxy's edge, i used to design airport terminals that were star wars themed (including ride systems) that would 'land' you in a fully cannon environment - and then started to think about other ways to 'move people' by connecting them to other stories and locals. This was a missed opportunity with Galactic Star-cruiser where a truly incredible transit experience and 'lunch bay' could have really solidified your buy-in to the experience once you arrive. I know budgets are a thing but there are many inexpensive ways you can pull these things off. All in all, Disney needs to get more comfortable with risk taking as a element of their culture again where now, they're just going for moonshots which as we've seen, don't seem to be paying off as they should be.
@tomorrowsociety
@tomorrowsociety Ай бұрын
Great points. I would have loved to see a transport attraction at Galaxy's Edge, which would have added much-needed energy to the land and allowed for different views beyond just ground level. I feel like a lot of the secondary attractions have been missing from some of the recent expansions for sure.
@jsardone
@jsardone Ай бұрын
@@tomorrowsociety The layering of experiences is also a big miss - you have all these facets of the land that feel devoid of life - unless they have plans for them why even bother? I would have rather had a Ewok village with tree-top villas (another project of mine) bridge the two places together but then it would break 'immersion'. Story is essential but these places need to design in more flexibility. I'm surprised that was not part of the plan from the start.
@tomorrowsociety
@tomorrowsociety Ай бұрын
@@jsardone Right. It's a large land with a lot of structures and areas, but in many of them, not much is really happening. I've found that as I think about it more, "immersion" isn't as important to me as just having a vibrant land that's an inviting space. Galaxy's Edge is an example where they're trying to stick to a timeline and look, but it keeps them too limited in a lot of ways.
@jsardone
@jsardone Ай бұрын
@@tomorrowsociety 100% agree. To me, 'immersion' is the story we're able to create ourselves while visiting the land - and what we take from it that keeps us coming back over and over again. The richness and vibrant layers (both seen and unseen) are what make those experiences, eventually, nostalgic.
