I have a malonois cardiac alert service dog, and we just recently rescued a chaweenie that looks like a mini version of him. She loves to learn so I'm going to attempt to train her to be a second service dog if all works out.

Quick question, i have a 12lbs sd, do you pouch your sd from time to time? Im going to start doing it because he cant handle walking for as long as he used to if we are out on a long trip (hes 7 now, and has mild luxating patella in his knees) he also catches onto my scent quicker for alerts when hes closer to my face and chest, but i dont want to be called a faker cause of it, any suggestions on getting him used to it and preparing for the reactions of people? Any suggestions on making the sling/pouch more comfortable for me and him when im carrying him in it as well? 😅

Please think about investing in some rex specs for your sd! My sd is small as well and hes been ran into multiple times both on accident and once intentionally while out in public! Im very glad he has his rex specs cause people see him better and if anything hits him in the face he doesnt get hurt! Same for boots! Boots are a must too! Helps protect their feet and makes them more noticeable!

If small dogs are too light to do DPT could you use a weighted lap pad and then the dog for extra weight and padding from claws

Absolutely you should be refused If you cannot write a doctors note, and don’t want to disclose your disability. That just means you’re faking it. Real people with disabilities will disclose them because they have nothing to hide or fake

I'm honestly surprised that tiny bladders wasn't a con. Although service dogs have to be housebroken, because small dogs have small bladders, aren't you ever worried about your SD having accidents? Has it happened? I'm debating whether or not to get a Pomeranian to train as a service dog when originally I had settled on a Golden retriever. I love the pros of having a smaller dog and even with the cons, it's completely worth it.

If I want my ash Orkney to be my PSD and she only needs to be around my neck in her carrying pouch, do you believe there to be any alterations in the rules? I don’t use cages or carriers, just the pouch around my neck. When I get anxious, all I have to do is reach down. I would need her that close during take off and landing. You’ve seen the changing rules. Do you see an accommodation to fit our needs?

My future SD is a chihuahua. He’s still too young to start training but when he’s older and ready we’ll start training. I also want to get basic obedience and recall training done first.

I’m glad my next service dog will be small because of light DPT. Something I’ve realized is I only like very light pressure when I’m having a panic attack or PTSD episode. Heavier pressure makes it worse… I’m leaning towards a Jack chi. I feel like it’s fate tbh. His story is very similar to part of mine and that understanding of each other is something I’ve always felt helps with bonding.

I saw a fake service dog today at Walmart, and it was also a chihuahua. It was sniffing around, looked distracted, Did absolutely nothing like Skye did. The lady didn’t tell the chihuahua to heel, or any commands. I don’t think the service dog is trained, But is pretending to be labeled as a service dog. So I told my mom and she disagreed with me. I’m not a service dog handler, But I’m wanting to be one because I am mentally disabled, and the lady looks like she doesn’t have a disability. I mean, I was making faces at her, Because I knew she could go to jail for making her pet dog labeled as a service dog. The chihuahua wasn’t wearing a custom service dog vest like Skye.
