I feel like you've really missed out on the psychology of the typical Gen-Z person. For almost the last 10 years of running a business, many of these people have a different philosophy of life and different expectations. They commit time and energy to get an education, then expect that the world is going to pay them handsomely. Anyone that has spent real time working knows that the education is a foundation of knowledge and it takes years to get good at anything, so a high level of pay at a senior level is not realistic. The other part is that they seem to want to have a massive impact on things and expect that their efforts have deep meaning, immediately. There is no understanding that it will take years of hard work to achieve goals and make advancement, they want everything now. I have watched a good hard working past employee bounce between 4 jobs in 5 years trying to find that happy place, often with the excuse that the change has benefited their personal life , like allowing them to work from home, but also they feel like they can make a difference somewhere else. They barely give a specific job a chance before jumping ship and want everything handed to them without real long term investment. Not all are bad, but there is a bigger challenge these days when they are persuaded by unrealistic peacock displays on whatever social media platform of choice.

When tuition can be tens of thousands of dollars, of course you expect some pay. You're broke otherwise. In some nations, the days of free tuition or cheap tuition are over. You MUST make money immediately or you are fucked. It's a whole scam system that needs a fix, but I definitely wouldn't blame it on "the psychology of the typical Gen-Z person"

companies don't want to train anyone because they all just leave a year after spending 3-6 months training them. this is due to employees having no loyalty and the "fuck employers and go get your own first" mentality. not to mention the entitled, lazy attitude that they have. training them how to even be a part of the workforce in general is work in of itself. it's just not worth the money to train them, while overpaying them, and then getting shit on them for being unreasonable capitalist pigs, and then finally when they're somewhat useful, they jump ship to somewhere else. fuck that noise. typical gen z and millennials blaming everyone besides themselves for the consequences of their own actions.

Why be loyal to a company underpaying you? Its not like it used to be, no gold rolexs getting tossed for retirement. Either youre taking a 1-2% raise every year or you hop ship fairly often to companies for salary increases of 10-20% if not more.
@byungs

@@chris5590 maybe you were getting underpaid because you had no training and no prior experience.

You do understand loyalty is earned, it's not a given. Management and Talent Acquisition are the most entitled ones around. They want the best around, but pay for subpar employees. Workers are doing what is in their best interest because the company will gladly pay the position 10% more for someone with equal experience if they're from out of company if you leave, but if you ask for that as a raise while having any knowledge critical to your role they'll tell you to pack your bags. You can't have it both ways. There is a trade for labor, but you keep lowering what you'll offer, obviously everyone else is gonna lower what they offer in return.
@joehudson7007
@joehudson7007 Ай бұрын
Companies keep cutting pension plans, offering worse and worse 401k matching, the health insurance keeps getting worse and worse because the employee keeps having to pay more and the company pays less. The pay has been stagnant, so when accounting for inflation, you're getting paid less, and then you also expect everyone to do more work. You want it all for pennies. Cry more you ingrate.
@byungs
@byungs Ай бұрын
@@joehudson7007 and that is why we're in the position we are in now. why bother training anyone when you can just poach someone who has already been trained. know that workers have more leverage when they have lots of experience, but new workers all think that they're the shit and don't want to bother putting in the work of the first shitty years.

My son is Gen Z- my son has NEVER gone without a job longer than 2 weeks between jobs since he was 15. He’s 20 now. He shows up on time/ has wonderful references- he Never calls off…he gets experience at one job and is constantly looking to make more money. This generation IMO doesn’t have the same sense of urgency like mine or others…not having a job was not an option. I took commission only jobs for 20 years- I own my own business after getting into insurance which doesn’t take degrees although I have several- a Ph.D even. If you want it bad enough it’ll happen. My son has always been ambitious and he’s really good at selling himself and talking to anyone and everyone. I’ve never once helped my son with his jobs either, he finds them himself! This is huge as I think many parents today take on that responsibility and it doesn’t help them get anywhere . Each generation has its challenges- I went thru 2008 as a single mom- went back to school and I made it happen- took 10 years but I did it to build the six figure biz I have today. My son saw all of that and has my work ethic Keep trying, keep learning and don’t give up…and maybe a trade or insurance or something like that is a better bet than some employer offering you minimum wage

Interesting conversation- thank you! When I was in the corporate world (way back when) I don't recall ever rcving feedback after a job interview. Recruiter or not. I think how people's maturity level is crucial here. Not sure if I would have been perfect myself at that age or stage in my life...

Your brand is about doing and putting into practice a level of excellence that makes a statement about your org to get it done. It’s just no longer referred to as “corporate brand” Never been a fan of external DEI programs, if a company is not weaving in diversity internally intentionally, then they likely won’t spend on services. Vibe is important, but I’d argue that vibe creates organizational culture so ultimately your choosing the culture. Great Rant this week!

Unlimited PTO is mainly a benefit for new hires because seasoned employees get probably around 5+ weeks of PTO a year anyway but new employees only get the 3 max so by giving unlimited PTO to everyone that means everyone is able to take the 5+ not just the seasoned employees.

Mam how to deal with boss/recruiter gaslighting us when its our 1st interview as fresher ? To be very specific when i gave my 1st interview i remember asking him about what would be my job designation like ? To that he replied in some anger that you don't have that kind of experience so you've to handle the office work as well as site work so i remained silent but declined that offer by not approaching them again.. so how to counter such a situation if it happens in future ?? How to politely set boundaries or ask about detailed information of job profile, holidays, work hours etc

I like to present 5 top candidates and either picking the top candidate or top 2 for final round. The only time I’ve possibly had more than 5 candidates is for high volume roles and IT roles for home grown enterprise systems that required a unique mix of skills.

I do agree with LinkedIn in has gotten away from its intended purpose. It’s been infiltrated with nonsense. With the change of leadership the value has gone down. Secondly, technology has played a big part in delayed messaging etc. between fake job posting and hacked accounts. Thirdly, lazy recruiting has really been a damper to the industry… the Art of td recruiting needs to be taught and not seen as a default career.

Really true.. there are always organizational task, plans that leadership can move forward during down times. Administrative , strategic, or culture building initiatives. This is also ware a strong culture of professional development, continuous learning, and cross training is important throughout, it usually gives employees the freedom to take Initiative and be a value add in other areas.

Tailoring a resume with highlights that are relevant to the job in which applying. However, if you are seeking employment for a position that is not posted but are sending your resume to the company to alert a company of your interest you may want to leave your resume somewhat broad with a few accomplishments highlighted. Noting a few positions of interest will also be important in this approach. An, example would be an MBA with a very broad background and tones of experience ( a more season candidate)

It’s necessary, but with the rise of the gig economy and COVID employers need to be more open minded when scrutinizing career gaps. Over scrutinizing career gaps will cause employers to miss out on great game changing candidates .
