In 1967 soon after Iyengar avazh was no more, me and my father bought a Gramophone record player and two 78 RPM records by Odeon and HMV of Iyengar's music. Then I was a school boy, I became his devotee ever since !

In Sukhi Evaro, the way Mani Iyervaal sings and develops the kalpana swarams and finally lands on the gandharam makes us feel that the jeevan of the ragam Kaanada is encapsuled on that gandharam landing and nothing is left to hear more in Kaanada. Such is the nadam and music this mahavidwan possessed that everyone including his contemporaries and students of music agree in unison that Madurai Mani Iyervaal is a Nadayogi and one of the vidwan's who liked to swim in the ocean of Nadam and give brahmanandam to the rasika's listening to his music.

I am just a layman. Like everyone i too started off listening to, from MS. Then on to other stalwarts. For 30+ years now. I have one grievance. To some extent her list of songs particularly later part of any concert is repetitive. Almost in all concerts i find this manasuloni. Kambhodhi, bilahari, dhanyasi, hindolam, kapi etc are not to be seen often.

Madurai Mani Iyer had completely spoiled the original structure of all the kruthis in his entire life long concerts until his last breath. Inspite of his very worst disgusting pronounciation of each word in his concerts, I very much wonder he got recognition as Carnatic Musician. No melody at all. Original tune completely spoiled. Very big Dhrishti parikaaram singer of Carnatic Music of yester years. He never respected nor followed sacrad tradition in Carnatic Music. He introduced his own disgusting sangathis in all the kruthis he had sung in his entire concerts. So many examples such as Kapaali in Moganam, Chakkani raaja in Karaharapriya, Subramanydn rakshithoham in Suddha Dhanyasi raagam. Very sirry.🤮🤮

Those golden days all prominent Vidwans and Vidhushis used to sing 4 hours concert with ease. Now a days there is no Vidwan/Vidhushi to sing for 4 hours due to not only lack of stuff but the Rasikas have no patience to listen them in this materialistic life.
