I grew up in Connecticut back in the 1960's and recall walking near a stonewall and from about 35 feet I could see a copperhead lying on the wall and his head was shinning from the sun and its coloring was one of the most beautiful snakes I ever seen. I agree venomous snakes have a definite useful purpose and all snakes avoid man at all cost, even the venomous species.

People see a venomous snake and they almost naturally kill them. I had a 5ft copperhead on my property and I have kids and dogs. I had to get rid of them all. I fish at a dry damn on rt 272 called John Mineto state park. It's left to the wild now and not maintained much anymore. It has alot of wild life and a few separate bodies of water. It's full of snakes. Rat, milk, king, water, copper and gardener. Never seen a rattle yet. But when I say full of snakes. ..... like one every 50ft
