This is my Families Ranch, well it was! I remember getting to visit with my grandparents when it was closed because it was literally our families land and history! So cool to see it on KZbin!

At 7:13, the area is so beautiful. Is it close to Mesquite Flat San Dunes?
@ThePlacesWhereWeGo8 күн бұрын
Ah, the area at 7:13 is Pismo Beach, California-about 5.5 hours west of Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. We included that footage because we were discussing the Pismo Dunes during that part of the video. Both are worth seeing if you are exploring California, but they are separate trips for sure. Thanks for stopping by to watch.

Hidden secret is right! What a neat video tour!! Thanks for this. By chance, do you know what happened to Moorpark's old train depot? Was it relocated or demoed ?
@ThePlacesWhereWeGo8 күн бұрын
As far as we know, the Moorpark Train Depot did not survive - that one would have also made an interesting historic site. Merry Christmas!

My mother just passed away. FDR signed Executive Order 9066 on her 14th birthday. She never talked about Manzanar with bitterness, just as a place that was part of her childhood. Amazingly, she had a yearbook, with a picture of the guard tower in it. A Project Director by the name of Ralph P. Merritt wrote about his hope for the students, which included …”I hope you may say that Manzanar was an experience worth living, where the important realities of life were made clear and where there was time and opportunity to prepare for participation in the work of winning the peace based on tolerance, understanding and good will. The graduates of Manzanar have a great contribution to make in determining the kind of world that is to come after the war”. My mom married a man who became a doctor, raised 6 kids who all graduated college and married descendants of immigrants of other countries…Europe, Mexico/Native American, Philippines. I never met my uncle from my dad’s side, as he died trying to liberate France as part of the 442nd battalion -a Japanese unit. Hope to make a pilgrimage to Manzanar in the near future. Thank you for putting this video together so I can get an idea of what it was like.

In May (2025) I and my 17 yr old grandson are going on a five week roadtrip and Manzanar is a stop I have planned for this trip. He is a WWII but didn't know anything about Manzanar. It should be an eye opener for him. Thanks for the video.
@ThePlacesWhereWeGo12 күн бұрын
That sounds fantastic. If he is interested in WWII and if your road trip will take you to Southern California, you might look into visiting the Battleship USS Iowa in San Pedro or the USS Midway in San Diego. Happy travels and thanks for stopping by to watch.

I think this is my favoritist ep. yet. Just as you two...many a time I've driven by and said, "we need to stop in sometime". I like that you point out it's a day trip, too. Is there a full service restaurant/cafe? Fun vid! CG

There is a full service restaurant on premises, though we didn't stop in there to eat as the morning breakfast was plentiful. We have a lot of similar places that comprise our "need to stop in sometime" list. One by one. Happy holidays!

Let me start out by saying that I loved the video. I visited this park several time in my life, and have even camped here a couple of times, and it was a really great capture of the parks trails and tranquility. Having lived my entire life in California, I want to point out a possible mistaken identity. From what I could see in the video, I believe all the birds in the video were Turkey Vultures. TVs would have a five-ish foot long wingspan and a Condor would have almost double that, at a nine-ish foot long wingspan. The Condor generally having some white-ish color under the shoulder and along the leading edge of each wing, with black feathers, where the TV has mostly black color and the feathers appear dark silver or grey when stretched for gliding. Either way, thank you for this video, it reminded me of times past and I even still recognized some of the places on the trails. Well done.
@ThePlacesWhereWeGoАй бұрын
Thanks for pointing out the information about the birds. We really weren't sure but were assuming they were condors as we were at the area known where they are seen. The birds were only captured with an iphone camera on the video so it was hard to do them justice. Thanks so much for your comments and for stopping by to watch. Happy travels!

It's true that you can't really see the pupfish at Devils hole but, I was thrilled to visit nonetheless. It has to be this way in order to protect these little guys. Before the cages and fences, there used to be vandalism that threatened the fish. I did see the ash meadows amargosa pupfish along the boardwalk. Also worth checking out is Shoshone, where they've worked to restore the habitat for the Shoshone pupfish, and I did see them! I usually visit Ash Meadows in July or August, and usually I'm the only one there, but I love the heat!

Only one Motel, the Shoshone Inn which I would go back to Shoshone just to stay there again a really nice place. Of course, nearby Tecopa and China Date Ranch, (great Date Shakes,) and is the trailhead to the Amargosa River hike….ok, I’m gonna watch some more of your vids!

James Dean got a speeding ticket.What's it called his last autograph from california highway patrol Up on the grapevine hill and was speeding at 65 miles an hour which the speed limit was 55. So he was only going 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. People like to exaggerate that he was going a 100 miles an hour but He only took that way over the grapevine To put mileage on the Porsche and break the car in for the race in Salinas he also have a car with some friends trailing behind him On his way to race in Salinas. His mechanic was German and in 1973 was killed on the auto bond in Germany. Donald Turnipseed was a Cal Polly college student in San Luis Obispo and he was going home for the weekend to his parents house in Talare. They owned Turnipseed electronics in Tulare, California, which is still there. Until Donald Turnipseed death He never talked about that incident to anyone he felt bad his whole life about it. California Highway Patrol said it wasn't either driver's fault. Being a race car driver. James Dean used a tactic to avoid accidents by knowing his horsepower of his car and tried to get passed him before he turned into him and Donald Turnipseed, just couldn't see the car. It was silver. The road was silver and it was transparent.

Great video . Two great churches ( I need to visit the Oratory ) . There were earlier Catholic Cathedrals built and opened at Newcastle , Nottingham , Birmingham , Salford , Portsmouth , Shrewsbury and Wrexham , but Westminster is by far the largest and seat of the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster who is the head of the Catholic Church in England and Wales ( Scotland has a different hierarchy and Bishop's Conference ) . The Archdiocese of Westminster covers London north of the River Thames , south of the river is covered by the Archdiocese of Southwark and the cathedral there ( St.Georges ) is smaller and was opened as a cathedral in 1850 ( before Westminster ) and the first Archbishop of Westminster was consecrated there as Westminster Cathedral hadnt yet been built ( as you said ) . St.Georges was virtually destroyed by bombing in WW2 and had to be rebuilt .
