It's much easier for the viewer to learn the dance if the camera stays put all the way through or at least for one round at a time.

Very true, and a point that I try to observe in my videos. This was something of an exception, however, in that the caller , for the sake of the class demonstration, had cleverly combined the action of two sets, which exchanged dancers where they bordered one another, and the camera was trying to capture that without having the focal width to see the entire group. Fortunately, the first round at the very beginning does show the entire pattern, save for the 1s casting to 3rd place and the 3s moving up at the very end.

@@childgroveThank you for the explanation! I now see how the top dancers in the set to our right form a circle with the top dancers in the set to our left at the point where the bottom two couples in each set are circling.

The tune appears on a privately produced CD of Fried Herman dances called, appropriately enough, The Bonds of Harmony, though I believe it's out of print. Thanks for your interest, Dawn-Marie, and sorry I can't be more helpful.

@childgrove2 жыл бұрын
Hello, Laurie, The instructions and music for the first dance in this trailer, 20 Years' Waltz, are in Fried Herman's book of dances called Fringe Benefits, which unfortunately is currently out of print. If you email me at [email protected], I can arrange to get you a copy of that one dance. You can locate a video of the full dance on this Childgrove KZbin channel, by the way, probably with a simple Search. I see you have a good eye for choreography; this dance has some of the most beautiful and original in Fried's extensive repertoire.

Not that I know of, Maria. The dance appears in Fried Herman's Serendipity (expected to be back in stock at CDSS in a month or two) and the music is in Barnes, volume 3. Your family knows a fun dance when it sees one! --Paul Ross

I love this dance, it is so alive bouncing and fun. Good music makes all the difference to the feel of the dance. I want to teach it to our U3A English Country Dancing set, I just hope they are up to it, some of them complain when I take the difficulty level up a little.
@childgrove2 жыл бұрын
I hope you succeed in doing so, Michael. Perhaps your own enthusiasm for this historic dance will carry the day (along with careful, easy programming before and after the teaching to help with buy-in from the dancers).

We used to sing this song. O come ye from Newcastle, Oh come ye there away and saw ye not my true love riding on a bonnie bay. Primary School was keen on folk tunes in the 1940's in England
