They turned out great. So many different things actually took place with this flip… You were limited in the tools dept. but you worked through it. You discovered a new-to-me product that you really liked that we might see in a future flip. Dealt with the hardware to order all of them in the end. But what I loved the most is how your mom was blessed with all of your hard work… and it will be showcased for a long time to come. From her bedroom makeover to the pieces of furniture you grew up with. Good stories to tell. ❤️

Very nice, you did a great job. Glad you mentioned it was your first time using the 3X thick and you were happy with it. Been eyeing it but haven't pulled the trigger. Gonna have to try it on the next project. Did you sand the topcoat tho or did it dry smooth?
@DIYWithSammyКүн бұрын
It dried so smooth, I was so happy with it. If anything you could run over it with a paper bag. I like to save paper bags because they are just the right grit to finish off a piece and not leave any marks behind. For this piece I didn’t use anything though, I loved the finish.

Do you ever get gunk build up on your sanding paper? I don’t know how to prevent it. It’s makes sanding so much more time consuming cause I have to stop multiple times time scrape it off. Any advice?

Yes I do, best tip is making sure you clean it really well and recently I have tried a carbide scraper and it’s my new best friend, makes sanding so much easier and faster!

If I’m being honest it wasn’t my favorite flip either. I think I’m going to change the hardware all together to give it a different look. Thinking back now, I feel like I should have put a stain on top of the paint wash, but I’ll have to try that next time. Thank you for watching 🩷

Hi Sammy! I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for clearing up where you live now, lol. I was pretty sure from the vegetation and architectural styles you were not working in AK. I lived in the Greenville SC area for most of my life before retiring to FL. My guess was that you were in GA or the Carolinas. 😁 I’m always interested to know other peeps general location and climate conditions. That gives me an idea of whether their products and practices are likely to work for me.

Aren't you suposed to clean the entire piece 1st so that grease or dirt does not get into the wood from sanding. Also did not see you sand in-between each coat of paint. Know you might not have to depending on the type of paint use but just about every expert says it's best to do it. Just a thought I can not wait till this gold trend goes away.
@DIYWithSammy8 күн бұрын
@@blondejovi_71 sometimes I clean sometimes I don’t. Yes I make sure to always sand in between coats of paint as said in the video 😊thanks so much for watching blonde 😉

I hate to bother you with this. I am just starting my furniture "updating, refinishing " adventure. Can I ask how you find out the quality or value of piece as is and/or after. Example I just bought a Koehler buffet, it has a metal plate with a number on it. I don't think it's worth a fortune but I'd like to know where to start. Any advice for resources would be greatly appreciated thank you
@DIYWithSammy6 күн бұрын
Yeah of course! Probably not the answer you want to hear but it all depends. It depends on the quality of work, I know when I first started I wasn’t as good as I am now and would list my items for the quality of work I did. Another thing to consider is the quality of the product, if it’s a name brand then it’s easier to look up but if there is no makers mark then I look at the structure, for example if it’s made out of wood with dove tail drawers then I would still list it for a high price. If it’s, let’s say pressed wood then I’m going to mark it down because it isn’t as high quality. Koehler furniture can go for top dollar depending on the item and condition it’s in. I like to google similar items to get a base price to go off of. I hope this helped you! Good luck on your flipping journey! ☺️

@DIYWithSammy anything helps and I truly appreciate you taking the time to answer. Right now I'm struggling with trying for perfection. I feel like if it doesn't look factory new I can't let someone buy it. I'm weird but working on it ha. Thanks again

Great work! When sanding antiques or any flat surface in general, make sure the furniture pieces lay as flat as possible on a sturdy surface. Any kind of movement during sanding (rocking, tilting, etc.) poses a risk of creating dents or uneven surfaces in the wood.

This is a great video and one that shows exactly how to build a base. My question is, how do you know where to put the pocket holes.? I did not see you measure and as this will be the first time I will be doing it I would like to know how you decide where they go.
