I used to live out there! Two-three miles from Alexander springs, something kind of crazy happened, and we had to be rescued. A helicopter came out and led us to where there was a fourwheeler waiting. Get this, we were on a trail with NO ALTERNATIVE ROUTE, a trail that went left, left, destination swimming hole. Right, right,back to the car. There was NOWHERE else to go, but on the way back, the right turn towards the parking lot had just disappeared. We thought "well, it must be further then we think, because this trail ends there, we couldn't keep going if we had passed the turn." Eventually, we did turn back, but nothing was right. We found a road that didn't exist, a huge burned patch of forest that the forestry guys said didn't exist, etc. I don't usually tell the story, because I know how crazy it sounds. How many will chalk it up to us just getting off trail somehow, or we were just mistaken, but I'm telling you, I've been to that swimming hole my whole life, a hundred times wouldn't be an unreasonable estimation. I swear something wanted us lost. We got lost right before lunch, I didn't get service to call until that afternoon, and we were rescued as the sun was going down. There were other strange things, but all things that could have been explained, however unlikely. That one occurrence? We never went back. I spent years out there before I moved afterwards, and never could bring myself to try and go back.
